	Fusebox (programming) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Fusebox 4 and later versions use XML for the control files (fusebox.xml and circuit.xml).
		Fusebox version 3 was a complete rewrite by leading members of the Fusebox community, and introduced the concept of the "core files", used by later versions.
		As of Fusebox version 4, the original creators are no longer involved in the development of the framework and the core files license (which is open source) is held by a private company: The Fusebox Corporation (which appears to be a defunct corporation).

		Fusebox is an application framework that is very popular in the ColdFusion community and many of its adherents are very zealous about it.
		Fusebox provides a small set of 'core' files and a large amount of structure which is very helpful for a lot of developers: it emphasizes and strongly encourages separation of presentation from logic and uses a readily understandable idiom for modeling websites, namely circuits, fuses and switches.
		Fusebox 5 is in active development right now which a public released slated for mid-2006, at CFUNITED (I'm the lead developer).

		It's not "required" to run fusebox, but it is an "official core file." Note that the fusebox.init.cfm file replaces the need for using the old Globals plugin (although you can still use that w/ fusebox 4.1 if you care to).
		Fusebox 4 needs to be able to create a 'compiled' file (which is based on what you put into Fusebox.xml and all of your Circuit.xml files) the first time the application is accessed (as well as anytime you change any of the XML config files).

		The Fusebox CoreFiles are set up to have the parsed and plugins folders located in the same relative paths as the CoreFiles.
		In this case it may be more accurate to call the root of the Fusebox app the Fusebox root, in which case it is most accurate to say that the plugins and parsed folders must reside in the Fusebox root.
		In Fusebox 4, the most common way to do this would be to have a "Globals" plugin, set in the preProcess phase, which would contain the PHP code to set up the variables.

		Fusebox helps ensure successful projects by providing a framework that serves as a base for applications.
		But then again, Fusebox is covered in great detail on the web and the authors are part of the core of that community - and the book _does_ cover lots of good tools you can get for free which _will_ help you along.
		Fusebox is a Very Good Thing for ColdFusion, and I would have given this book 5 stars if it had provided perhaps at least one brief summary, a step-by-step, perhaps, on how to start your first Fusebox app.

		Fusebox 4.1 was the fastest which really isn't much of a surprise since it compiles everything down to straight line CFML on the first request so subsequent requests just process a single file.
		Fusebox 4.1 is a very stable, mature framework that has a lot of powerful features.
		The notoriously unreliable Fusebox downloads server has finally been retired and http://download.fusebox.org/ now redirects to the (extremely reliable) http://www.fusebox.org/downloads/ website, which has also been updated to provide more accurate timeline information for Fusebox 4.1 (going "gold" in late December 2004) and Fusebox 4.2 (projected beta in Summer 2005, in time for CFUN 05 no doubt!).
