 Pranter Thesis, Chapter 3
Fusulinid dolowackestones and dolopackstones exhibit varying degrees of fusulinid preservation and are primarily present within the basal portion of the reservoir interval.
Although porosity values within fusulinid dolopackstones may exceed 10 percent, effective porosity is generally low within fusulinid-bearing lithofacies since anhydrite cement occludes much of the pore space (and pore throats) or the biomoldic pores are not connected.
The presence of fusulinids, bryozoans and echinoderms suggests that this facies developed in normal-marine conditions within 30 feet of water depth and greater (Sonnenfeld and Cross, 1993; Kerans et al., 1994; Kerans and Fitchen, 1995).

KGS--Bull. 52, Pt. 7--Morrowan Rocks and Fusulinids of Kansas
All four of the species of fusulinids, and possibly the variety, present in the Kearny formation in Kansas are also recognized in Morrowan rocks of Arkansas.
It is believed, therefore, that this close similiarity of fusulinid faunas demonstrates that this part of the subsurface section in Kansas is of Morrowan age.
Fusulinids referable to the genus Millerella are abundant in the cutting samples from throughout almost all the Kearny formation.

Our Hoosier State beneath us: Paleontology: Indiana's fossil fusulinids
Cousins of the modern amoeba, fusulinids are extinct shelled protozoans that lived between 234 and 315 million years ago.
Several genera are found in marine limestones and shales in the coal-bearing strata of southwestern Indiana.
Fossil fusulinids help geologists in Indiana to correlate isolated rock exposures, to identify subsurface rocks, and to coordinate local geologic history with events in the worlds geologic history.

 GeoKansas--Fossil Fusulinids
Fusulinids became extinct during the mass extinction at the end of the Permian Period, about 250 million years ago.
By studying living relatives of the fusulinids (a group called the foraminifera), scientists know that the tests were secreted by the protoplasm, the living material within the cell.
Because of their rapid evolution and their occurrence in the rocks from around the world, fusulinids are extremely useful in correlating the ages of sedimentary rocks from different parts of the earth.

THE ABUNDANT fusulinids of the Hughes Creek Shale Member of the Foraker Limestone in east-central Kansas are noted for their excellent preservation (Hageman and Kaesler, 1998).
Other fusulinids were attacked at the poles or had test material peeled back, much as modern-day crabs strip away the shells of snails and clams.
The predators of fusulinids may have been similar to those that prey on modern foraminifera, which are known to include fish, gastropods, nematodes, and crustaceans (Ross, 1972; Lipps and Ronan, 1974; Be and Spero, 1981; Lipps, 1988).

Fusulinids are giants among protists and could reach a centimeter in length.
The Mississippian is differentiated from the Pennsylvanian by the appearance of the conodont Declinognathodus noduliferus, the ammonoid genus Homoceras, and the foraminifers Millerella pressa and Millerella marblensis.
Index fossils used for the Pennsylvanian Period are fusulinid foraminifers and the pollen and spores from the coal forests prevalent during that time.

Moreover, study of the addition of chambers by fusulinids is hampered by the inability clearly to discern in SEM micrographs the tectum, the outer covering of the wall, which is commonly visible in thin section.
Fusulinid tests are characterized by microgranular walls made of closely packed, equidimensional, subangular grains of calcite.
Different arrangements of grains result in layering in the walls of the test, which, together with the form of the test, are the basis for distinguishing higher taxa within the suborder (Lipps, 1973).

Introduction: FUSULINID SUCCESSION FROM THE MIDDLE-UPPER CARBONIFEROUS BOUNDARY BEDS ON SPITSBERGEN, ARCTIC NORWAY   (Site not responding. Last check: )
The frequent occurrence and unique preservation of fusulinids in these strata offers an opportunity to study the process of the fusulinid evolution in transitional Middle to Upper Carboniferous beds based on their ontogeny.
The fusulinid faunas of Spitsbergen have important paleobiogeographic implications as they act as faunal links between the diverse faunas known from Russia (e.g., Russian Platform, Timan-Pechora Basin and Urals) in the east and Northeast Greenland (Wandel Sea Basin) and the Canadian Arctic (Sverdrup Basin) in the west.
New fusulinid data from Spitsbergen are regarded as being of great importance for resolving the problem of the Middle/Upper Carboniferous boundary recognition.

His studies for the Illinois State Geological Survey Coal Division led to specialization in the fusulinid foraminifera that are common in the limestones and associated shales interbedded with the coal deposits.
His association with Professor Dunbar at Yale continued to yield papers on fusulinid genera, on comparative morphology and evolutionary trends in the fusulinids, and also a monograph on the Pennsylvanian Fusulinidae of Illinois.
Lloyd did considerable work on the smaller foraminifers that are found associated with the fusulinids in some deposits and on the relationship between forams and algae.
