  Future Infantry Soldier Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Future Infantry Soldier Technology (or FIST) is a project by the British Army, which aims to enhance the infantrymen's combat effectiveness in the 21st century as part of the Future Soldier project.
The goal is to integrate a modular system of all equipment, weapons and their sighting systems, radios that the individual soldier carries or uses, in order to increase his overall effectiveness on the battlefield.
As well as linking into the new technology for the soldier it is designed to link in with other new communications including Cormorant and Talon as well at the UK UAV project called Watchkeeper.

Future Soldier is the overall name given to a multi-nation military project by the United States and its allies.
Soldiers will require not only enhanced versions of existing equipment (rifle, pistol, knife, helmet, armour, clothing), but also new forms of equipment that will become possible as new types and combinations of technologies become viable for battlefield deployment (such as exoskeletons, micro robot vehicles, surgery-enhanced vision, invisibility shrouds, and others).
Some of the early Future Soldier equipment was tested in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

According to the 24th Army Science Conference, future warriors may be wearing high-tech uniforms that field liquid armor, 360-degree situational awareness technology, plus virtual reality screens that enable them to navigate an environment by projecting maps on the ground.
Lopez, an infantry Soldier stationed at the Natick Soldier Center in Massachusetts, spent four days in what could be the Army uniform of the future at the 24th Army Science Conference, explaining the technology behind it.
From the waist down, a skeletal system allows the Soldier to carry two or three times his or her body weight, feeling only the weight of their own body through the technology of an XO muscle, which augments a Soldier's strength.

FIST (Future Integrated Soldier Technology) is a tri-service project initiated by the UK Ministry of Defense, which will provide the British Armed Forces with an integrated fighting system for dismounted, close combat troops.
The soldier will be able to plan a route in advance, incorporating waypoints and avoiding dangers, and follow this even at night, using helmet mounted display with visual or audible cues.
The soldiers were put through a number of scenarios, typical of those encountered by infantry soldiers, including a night patrol, rural defense and urban assault.
