Futureworld - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Futureworld was a 1976 sequel to the 1973 science fiction film Westworld.
It could be argued that Futureworld resolves the question from the first film about why the robots killed - namely that the evil nature of Delos - and that it was betrayed by the robot's malfunction that switched them to the killing machines they've always been underneath.
Futureworld was the first major feature film to use 3D computer generated images (CGI).

 Futureworld (1976)
Futureworld, on the other hand, is poor science fiction that fails both as an "ideas" film and as a thriller.
Futureworld has many flaws, but the big one – the killer – is that it tips its hand far too early.
For a moment during this scene, Futureworld promises to be a satire on the state of the media, as Tracy, secure in her "fifty-five million viewers worldwide", dismisses the print reporter with a contemptuous, "Nobody reads." Sadly, this proves to be a dead end.

Trans Am - Futureworld - almost cool music review
Whereas most of their past releases have felt kind of bi-polar in styles, Futureworld is the disc that manages to blend their love of guitar rock anthems with their touch of kitsch.
After the noisy "Futureworld II" and the somewhat repetitive "Positron," the group closes out the disc with the song "Sad and Young." Tossing aside all remnants of the past tracks (except for a slight, swirling keyboard drone in the background), the song almost feels out of place on the disc with it's slow, post-rock progression.
The longer instrumental track is kind of a soothing earth ground after the elaborate effects and noises of the rest of the disc, even though it builds to near breaking point by the end.

Futureworld, on the other hand, may be Trans Am's best work yet, and this time the band clearly has a direction: the future!
The band processes its singing through a vocoder, a robotic effect enhanced by Sebastian Thompson's vaguely motorik assault, and "Television Eyes" and "Futureworld" match minimal melodies with raw arrangements.
With Futureworld, Trans Am finally attains a techno-rock, man/machine ideal, and then actually does something with it.

'Futureworld' may not resemble 'Westworld' too much, but that probably works to its advantage in the end, opting to take the somewhat-hackneyed 'robots-run-amok' premise in a new direction.
In FUTUREWORLD he's a seasoned print journalist who's constantly comparing his prowess with the superficial nose for news displayed by his adorable ex-girlfriend "Socks," played with elan by a game Blythe Danner.
They go to FUTUREWORLD on an all expense paid business trip to drum up publicity for the 1.5 billion dollar dream vacation resort, which had died a death in the wake of the WESTWORLD debacle.

It's, of course, only a matter of time before the robots start wreaking havoc - though this time it is not a result of malfunction but deliberate planning by shady corporate bigwigs looking to "replace" the hot shot guests with robot clones who will do their bidding.

In FUTUREWORLD you'll find what I think is one of the best scores composed by Karlin (the movie itself is not so good).
But with the release of Karlin's FUTUREWORLD and the inclusion of the mentioned 12-minute suite to WESTWORLD (with the inclusion of the gunslinger motif, my fav), the recent release of FUTUREWORLD is a must-own.
I just love the main theme for FUTUREWORLD and the whole piece is an interesting example of Karlin's work: work that needs to be better represented on CD.

 Splendid E-zine reviews: Trans Am
On Futureworld, the machines -- analog keyboards, vocorders and other retro-relics -- aren't necessarily winning, but they're holding the "organic" instruments in check with their more rigid performance aesthetic, resulting in a sound rather like what might have happened if Kraftwerk's ranks had swelled to include like-minded members of Black Sabbath.
After the mournfully unrestrained sax on fin de siecle opener "1999", "Television Eyes" cuts loose with driving drums, a pulsating bassline, burblingly urgent new-wave melody and tense vocorder vocals.
If all of our machines turn against us at the turn of the millennium, you can take some modest comfort in the fact that they won't mind if you listen to Futureworld.

Futureworld, the latest CD from Miles MacMillan, features melodic synth music in the tradition of Jean-Michel Jarre and early eighties Tangerine Dream.

Notoriously besotted with the 'world's ugliest aesthetics', Washington's Trans Am used to practise reconstructive post-rock surgery on Boston and Yes, occasionally flirting with butch metal thrills.
On 'Futureworld', though, they've ditched the rock and developed their latent fascination with car-sized synths, returning to the early-'80s computer age.
That means lots of vocoders, lots of chrome-plated isolation, and a nagging feeling you should join CND, their point being - like every other band with a hardware fetish and an arched eyebrow - that the future of the past is not the future of the present.
