Fuyu languages - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
The Fuyu languages or Buyeo (Puyŏ) languages are a hypothetical language family that would relate the languages of Fuyu/Buyeo, Goguryeo, and Baekje with the Japonic languages, and possibly place them together as a family under the hypothetical Altaic family.
In particular, Goguryeo and Baekje asserted themselves to be descended from Fuyu, and both traditionally had close relations and kinship with Yamato period Japan until they ultimately fell to the kingdom of Silla.
The Fuyu language itself is unknown except for a small number of words which suggest that it was significantly different from the language of Silla and from the Tungusic languages.

Persimmon Chilling(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Occurrence: The incidence and severity of chilling injury depend upon the cultivar (‘Fuyu' is chilling-sensitive while ‘Hachiya' is not chilling-sensitive), storage temperature and duration.
Upon transfer to higher temperatures the severity of the symptoms (flesh softening, browning, and water-soaked appearance) increases and renders the fruits unmarketable.

On September 27, 2001, there was a ceremony for the newly finished dormitory building in the Fuyu Forced Labour Camp.
They called in a large number of policemen from the Fuyu County Police Department and ordered many criminal inmates from other brigades to beat the practitioners doing the exercises.
Fuyu Forced Labour Camp closely blocked the information but we have heard that over twenty practitioners were transferred to the detention centre for further persecution.
Fuyus, for the uninitiated, are crunchy like an apple while hachiyas are soft when they're ripe.
However, by some accounts, fuyus can be softened up by leaving them in the freezer over night.
The cake recipe specifies use of the fuyu variety, which isn't too surprising since the recipe was published by the Califuyu, the California Fuyu Growers Association.

Fuyu: Fuyu, which is popular in Japan and becoming increasingly available in the United States, is a smaller, flatter, nonastringent variety that can be eaten while still firm.
It has the same bright orange color as the hachiya, but it is squatter and rounder, and does not have the hachiya's distinctive acorn point on the blossom end.
For good eating, a very firm Fuyu persimmon may need to be put aside for just a day or two.

Hachiya-type persimmons--good to eat when soft-ripe--can be cooked only under certain conditions, because heat causes their flavor to deteriorate, but they freeze well.
The versatile Fuyu types--delicious at either crisp or soft-ripe stages--are easier to work with; they can also be preserved by canning or freezing.
