Fuzzy Haskins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clarence "Fuzzy" Haskins (born June 8, 1941 in Elkhorn, West Virginia) is a singer (and occasional guitarist) originally with the barbershop quintet, The Parliaments, led by George Clinton.
Moving to Detroit, Michigan, the former Parliaments and their backing band, Funkadelic, started releasing albums as "Funkadelic." As the seventies wore on, their style became less doo wop and RandB and more funk and soul.
Haskins left the P Funk over financial disputes, and released two solo albums [A Whole Nother Thang] 1976 and [Radio Active] 1978

RC: This was Fuzzy Haskins' first solo album, at around the time he started to break away from Parliament.
Fuzzy's vocals are evocative and the lyrics are clever, going through a number of colors and their emotional connotations.
Fuzzy's singing is slightly echoed, creating a layered 'heavy' presence that adds a lot to them.

Original P: (Parliament-Funkadelic), Ray Davis, Fuzzy Haskins, Grady Thomas, Calvin Simon, P-FUNK
However he is best known as one of the founding members (along with George Clinton, Fuzzy Haskins, Grady Thomas and Calvin Simon) of a relatively unsuccessful/long suffering doo wop group from Plainfield New Jersey called the "Parliaments" back in the late 1950's.
Fuzzy was dressed in some kind of a wild fishnet body/jump suit and work a cap that sorta looked like a German Kaiser helmet with multicolored glitter all over it.
Fuzzy kept telling the crowd to push the tables aside and create a dance floor.

Calvin Simon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He originally began as one of the Parliaments, a doo wop barbershop quintet alongside George Clinton.
Along with Fuzzy Haskins and Grady Thomas, Simon released an album called Connections and Disconnections, using the name "Funkadelic" after leaving the rest of the group due to financial and personal disputes with Clinton.
The group only released the one album under the name Funkadelic, before changing labels.

Davis, Haskins, Thomas, and Simon made one last record together under the name the Funkadelics (with a large disclaimer on the cover stating that George Clinton had nothing to do with the project) that bombed (as in stunk, not "da bomb").
Afterwards, Haskins went on to become a minister and release a gospel record (The Sound of Gospel, Westbound Records), while the other members faded into relative obscurity.
Fuzzy Haskins : No, I just reached a crisis point in my life and God delivered me from a lot of trouble.

Davis was a member of the original Parliaments, a vocal group formed in the 1950s by Clinton while a junior high school student in Plainfield, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum website.
Other members of the group included Clarence ''Fuzzy" Haskins and Grady Thomas.
The group scored a top-20 pop hit in 1967 with the single ''(I Wanna) Testify." In the early 1970s, Clinton changed the vocal group's name from plural to singular and also created Funkadelic, a funk band with a sound more influenced by the electric guitar.

 Funk Record Reviews
Another great record from the Headhunters, although it is worth mentioning that their album "Survival of the Fittest", should be bought before this one, because it has similar stuff on it and the monster funk cut "God Made Me Funky", which is one of the best jazzfunk songs ever!
This album is just too damn funky, and one of the main reasons is because it is TWO albums on one disc.
These albums are part of the post-George Clinton era of former P-Funk members, Fuzzy left P-Funk to do his own thing (like many, many artists have done) and the result is some serious funk.

After graduating from high school, Clinton and his friends founded a barber shop, where they straightened hair in the front and rehearsed in the back.
Consisting of Clinton, Clarence "Fuzzy" Haskins, Ray Davis, Calvin Simon, and pal Eddie Hazel on guitar, the band found themselves going nowhere in New Jersey, and by the mid-'60s relocated to Detroit landing a deal with Revilot, a Motown rival.
Their 1967 single "(I Wanna) Testify" reached the Top 20, but the band found themselves embroiled in a legal dispute with another band called the Parliaments, and were unable to release a follow-up.

On top of it all we see mainman George Clinton leading the insanity in a parade of shock-inducing wigs and outfits, and whipping the crowd into a frenzy.
Fave musical moments are the opener "Cosmic Slop" with Mike Hampton's superhuman guitar solos, a slammin' "Standing on the Verge of Getting' It On" featuring a frantic Fuzzy Haskins as MC, and "Mothership Connection" where the brilliant (and dearly departed) Glenn Goins really shines.
Visually, you gotta love the classic outfits sported by all the members of the funk mob, like Maceo Parker and the Horny Horns, laidback genius Bernie Worrell, Stingray Davis, Grady Thomas, Calvin Simon (seen rarely), the Brides of Funkenstein, and especially Garry Shider with diaper and pacifier.
