In 1979 Zoeller became one of only three golfers to have won The Masters in his first appearance in the event.
Zoeller, always known for his locker room humor, is also known as having made a controversial remark regarding Tiger Woods during the 1997 Masters tournament.
Zoeller joined the Champions Tour in 2002 and won a senior major, the Senior PGA Championship that year.

However, at the request of the cameraman, Zoeller also struck some golf shots off the sixth tee for the taping, which is an infraction of the rules.
At the time he accomodated the cameraman's request, Zoeller was under the impression that both the taping site on the course and his hitting some balls for the feature had been cleared by the Champions Tour rules staff.
