The lyrics are potent, the music is erratic, and Nina Persson’s voice is as lovely as her face.
It also houses the worst sound effect in the history of music (around the middle of the song), but I let it slide since the rest of the song is so good.
‘Paralyzed’ from their album ‘Gran Turismo’ is one of my favorite styles of song.

Persson and bassist Magnus Sveningsson both released solo projects in the interim, and the group found themselves wondering if the end was near.
To hear Persson tell it, the very future of The Cardigans was a big question mark following the draining Gran Turismo tour.
The long-time friends, who started the group as teenagers over a decade ago, rented a house in LA and simply hung out together for two weeks.

"I like Magnus' stuff, but if I'm going to spend a lot of time with the songs, I want to know what they're about," Persson says.
Certainly Sveningsson struggled with this, "It's hard to kill your darlings!" he says.

 Amazon.co.uk: Emmerdale: Music
Probably the bands most unsettling and surreal album, Emmerdale employs quirky synchopations with high floating vocals from a young Nina Persson.
Dated 1994, Emmerdale is the first of the Cardigans albums and is a beautiful collection of pure vocals and effectively understated jazz/funk riffs.
Here her voice is slightly less developed and refined which, to any Cardigans fan, is a welcome change from the polished sound of Gran Turismo.

Ironically, The Cardigans' singer, Nina Persson, opted for the opposite route with her solo project, A Camp, drafting in as producer Mark Linkous, prime mover of Sparklehorse.
As on previous Cardigans albums, the songs inhabit a deceptive half-light of sexual desire.
The effects may be temporary - "Please Sister" soon slips into sleek, slightly austere, string-laced symphonic pop more in keeping with The Cardigans' style - but they affirm that three million sales of Gran Turismo haven't entirely damped down the desire to move on.

The Harvard Crimson :: Arts :: Cardigan's Latest Album is Swede and Low
More than any of their previous work, the album reveals the clash of personalities that enlivens the ensemble: the heavy metal/hard rock lineage of guitarists Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson and the '60s girl-group pop song tradition of singer Nina Persson and producer Tore Johansson.
Certainly, the group is far from a mere novelty project of classic pop archivist Johansson; as their First Band on the Moon cover photograph displays ardently, the Cardigans can rock.
Though their early albums Emmerdale and Life musically indulged the lighter guises of the band, distorted guitars and power chords have been seeping into the Cardigans' sound with increasing insistence and intensity.
