Pizarro, Francisco. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
Pizarro set about consolidating his conquest by founding new settlements, notably the present capital of Peru, Lima, and allotting land and Native Americans in encomienda to his followers.
Pizarro now made a pact with Almagro, whom he had cheated several times in the division of spoils, granting him the conquest of Chile.
Pizarro sent his half brother, Hernando Pizarro, to Cuzco, and Almagro was defeated and put to death.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Francisco Pizarro
Having collected the necessary funds Pizarro placed himself at the head of the expedition; Almagro was entrusted with the equipping and provisioning of the ships; and Luque was to remain behind to look after their mutual interests and to keep in Pedrarias's favour so that he might continue to support the enterprise.
Pizarro and thirteen of his companions refused to return, and the little party was abandoned on the island.
The followers of Almagro, offended by the arrogant conduct of Pizarro and his followers after the defeat and execution of Almagro, organized a conspiracy which ended in Pizarro's assassination of the conqueror of Peru in his palace at Lima.

Pizarro, who by this time was in Lima, sent a Spanish army of 500 men to support his over-stretched forces in Cuzco.
The self-appointed governor of Peru, Gonzalo Pizarro, turned out to be no less harsh than his predecessor so in 1546, when the king of Spain appointed yet another viceroy to take over, it was not difficult for him to gain support from the colonists as he travelled southwards from Panama.
Conflict between Gonzalo Pizarro and the latest officially appointed governor of Peru, Pedro de la Gasca, reached a climax in 1548 when Gasca’s forces crossed the Apurimac River to confront the Pizarrists who were advancing from Cuzco.

After traveling through desert and snow-capped mountains, Pizarro and his men (who included Hernando de Soto) arrived at Cajamarca (in 1533), where they captured Atahuallpa, the 13th and last emperor of the Incas.
Atahuallpa had invited Pizarro to a celebratory feast, thinking that the Spanish were not much of a threat.
Pizarro was assassinated in Lima, Peru, in 1541, by followers of Pedro de Almagro (Cortes' captain) who wanted to seize Lima for its riches.

Perhaps the most important of the sarcolemma/t-tubule components is an L-type calcium channel known as the dihydropyridine receptor, which serves as the voltage sensor in e-c coupling (Rios and Pizarro, 1991;Jones, 2002).
Interactions between the dihydropyridine receptor and the cytoplasmic region of the RyR are thought to mediate communication between the plasma membranes/transverse tubules and the transmembrane, ion-conducting region of the RyR in the SR.

He described the comet as a condensation enveloped in a diffuse halo and noted a tail extending 0.5 arc minute toward PA 310°.
He initially gave the daily motion as 210 arc seconds, but with only one available plate the direction of motion was ambiguous and was therefore given as PA 45° or PA 225°.
Upon receiving the information, Brian G. Marsden (Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams) computed a series of ephemerides based on assumptions of both parabolic and elliptical motion.

Named in honor of Guido and Oscar Pizarro, who operate the 1-m Schmidt telescope and who exposed the plates on which this minor planet was discovered.
In addition to his Hortus musicus, there survives his famous Prelude and Fugue in G minor, a piece that every organist likes to play, because of its extremely brilliant and fluent style.
Originally classified as a comet because of the persistent appearance of a tail, this newly-numbered Themis-family minor planet is being given the same name it has had as a comet.
