 Sligo Weekender: Sligo could offer Kildare a replay as ‘list’ drama continues
The Sligo GAA County Board executive will be deciding on the issue at a meeting this week.
County Board chairman Joe Queenan told the Kildare Nationalist that the Sligo GAA County Board was in a “state of shock” following the Games Administration Committee’s decision.
The GAC awarded Sligo the League points from their Allianz Football League Division 1B game against Kildare as the Leinster side were found to have been in breach of the rules.

Kildare s limitations were exposed by a very hungry and rejuvenated Kerry side who have now qualified for the quarter final stages and have terminated Mick O Dwyer s twelve year reign as manager of his adopted county on a sour note.
The negative tactics adopted by Kildare of getting almost their entire team behind the ball meant that the build-up to Kerry s attacking movements was often quite slow and laboured.
Kildare should be indebted for his enormous contribution because no other man would have brought such a limited squad to the verge of success although, one suspects, this latest episode marks the end of an era for Kildare football.

 John Dowling of the GAA 1931-2002
During his time with the Offaly County Board, both the county's footballers and hurlers enjoyed much success, John was Secretary of the County when Offaly won their first All-Irelands in football (1971) and hurling (1981).
As a mark of respect, Offaly's scheduled league division 1 clash with Cork and the Walsh Cup semi-final, against Wexford in Birr were both postponed, as were all Offaly domestic matches in the county.
In 1988 he became the thirteenth President of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and the first Offaly man to have the position.

Over the years the Longford Slashers Camp along with the Ballinalee and Abbeylara Camps have proved to be the largest in the county and this a testament to all the work going on at underage level in these areas in recent years.
Well done to Longford County Board and in particular John Greene - who was also a member of that successful team - for organising the night while the idea itself came about from an article on the history of the Fr.
The Longford team will have to learn from this experience and move on and if they take anything from this game they should become better footballers out of it in the long run.
