Pretend I happen upon an account with TDMA, GAIT, and GSM and they want to be on a Family Talk price plan and use their phone in New York and Los Angeles.
GAIT Nation says it requires the use of a GAIT phone, I don't see why they'd care if you had a GSM one too though, or TDMA, cause GAIT is GMS + TDMA, after all.
When on a GSM nation plan with a GAIT phone and TDMA addon option, you can never be charged for roaming.

I have a gait phone 6340i and I had to make quite a few calls to CS and they finally did put on TDMA interop on my plan which I can now see on my bill as part of my plan.
Gait soc codes must be added to the account for it to work properly and you must have an updated IRDB in your phone to catch the best possible coverage.
GAIT is still offered in the Louisiana area but it's not necessary.
