GCM has received confirmation from sources within the USGA that the position of director of championship agronomy, most recently held by 21-year USGA employee Tim Moraghan, has been eliminated and that Moraghan will leave the USGA at the end of the month.
GCM has received word that Tim Moraghan, director of agronomy for USGA championships, is noticeably absent from this week's U.S. Women's Open at Pine Needles in Southern Pines, N.C. Moraghan was in attendance two weeks ago at Oakmont for the U.S. Open.
GCM has contacted the USGA and at this time they are declining to confirm or deny that Moraghan is no longer under their employ.
