GIAT Industries (formerly known as Groupement des Industries de l'Armée de Terre, Army's Industries Group) is a French government-owned weapon manufacturer.
The group was founded in 1973 by combining the industrial assets of the technical direction of Army weapons of the French Ministry of Defense.
The company is operated at a loss, and a 2001 report by the Cour des Comptes described the situation as critical.

France's Giat Industries has agreed to upgrade hundreds of Leclerc tanks it has supplied to the UAE within a $4 billion deal signed 10 years ago while the delivery of scores of recovery vehicles in the package has been delayed for modifications requested by the UAE.
Giat, one of the key companies taking part in IDEX, said it had already supplied 381 of the 388 Leclerc main battle tanks to the emirates and the rest will be delivered by April.
Giat said it would maintain presence in the UAE for the years to come to provide training as well as logistic and technical support services to the armed forces as part of the Leclerc contract that was signed in 1993.

According to Giat, a unit of eight Caesar self-propelled artillery vehicles can dispense, in less than one minute, more than one ton of projectiles, 1,500 bomblets or 48 smart anti-tank munitions on targets at ranges up to 24 miles.
Giat has discussed with the U.S. Army the possibility of using Caesar in the so-called brigade combat teams, six or seven of which will be stood up during the next decade.
Another hurdle confronting Giat is the perception that Caesar would be competing against an ongoing artillery program—the Army and Marine Corps lightweight 155 mm towed howitzer.

An example of mine protection was demonstrated by GIAT with KPAM kit, designed for the M-113.
The suit demonstrated on an M-113 includes aluminum armor for the top deck, LIBA ceramic composites for add-on side protection, very high hardness steel for bottom (counter mine and IED) protection and lightweight titanium alloy for the front (providing uncompromised protection and access to the engine).
Reactive add-on armor is also proposed by GIAT for light and heavy armored vehicles.
