All of GM's mid-size and large cars should move to either the Epsilon (fwd) or Sigma (rwd) platforms, but the next Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Century/Regal will probably be interim vehicles based on an updated version of the current W-body.
Both platforms will offer 4wd versions, so it is technically possible to produce rwd cars on the Epsilon platform as well.
GM has registered the name Colorado for the new Chevrolet version, matching the move to Silverado for the fullsize GMT 800.

GM is working on a new GTO that will be out in a couple years, and built off a new RWD platform codenamed Zeta.
Besides, it probably would have cost a lot more to convert the W platform to RWD than to ship a few GTO's across the Pacific.
I spoke to a GM employee on the next-gen GTO development team in November at SEMA.

GM has given the go-ahead to develop a low-cost sportscar chassis, principally to support the Pontiac Solstice, but it must also share architecture with Buick and Saturn to justify the investment.
In light of the fact GM hasn't produced the Camaro and Firebird in a year, it may seem laughable to some people that GM claims to be in the affordable performance car biz, but performance isn't actually dead at GM.

Many people are saying Theta, but lets look at somthing roughly the same size but comes in RWD or Hi/Lo 4wd....you now have the platform of the new Grand Vitara/Escudo....maybe with Suzuki borrowing Theta...GM could ask to borrow that old truck ladder frame stiffened platform used on the GV....
Because gm offers very little in that market, in fact the closes things are the colorado z71 single cab and the h3, which are far from cutting it for many reasons.
Maybe GM should talk to Suzuki about this....considering Suzuki is known for ruggedness in SUVs and AWD in their cars....I could see this materializing.

The platform being targeted for use on a future Camaro is the new Sigma platform, which debuts in 2003 as the new Cadillac CTS.
Everyone but GM seems willing to admit that the current F-body is dead at the end of 2002, however even that announcement will eventually have to come from them.

That list is not finalized but GM is definately going to have more RWD and performance models in all of their divisions.
Also there are still rumors that GM may import the V8 powered Holden Ute (think Monaro with a truck bed) as the next El Camino and the V8 powered Holden Statesman as the Buick Roadmaster.
The Chevy Nomad on the same platform (Kappa) will be a 2+2 hatchback

The magnum is coming out soon, but that fool at GM decided to cut out their RWD platform from their roadmap.
GM is too dumb to stay in this market I suppose.
The 300, half-obsolete chassis and poor visibility and all, is selling like hotcakes (and it is a good car, not bashing it) but it just goes to prove that it did not take a miracle-miracle super car to generate sales.

It seems to me that the sigma platform production capacity could be expanded and more products could be designed at relativly low cost for this platform.
Well, it appears that one reason this platform was cancelled was to give GM funds to introduce its next generation of full size SUV's and pickup a little earlier.

Edmund’s Inside Line supplies what appears to be the first spy picture of GM’s new Zeta rear-wheel drive platform destined for the new Buick Invicta (think Park Ave replacement), Buick Velite convertible, Pontiac GTO, Pontiac G8 (Bonneville/GP replacement), Chevy coupe (Chevelle?) and almost all of Holden’s next generation of cars.
Holden is GM’s Australian brand that has performed most of the engineering of this platform.
Chevelle was most appropriate for the Chevrolet GTO-twin on the RWD Zeta platform.
