GM has had quality issues in the past, but honestly, almost all carmakers are building cars at the same level of quality.
You can see this happening in cadillac already, FWD catera and seville are gone, RWD CTS and STS have replaced them.
I've always been a GM guy (no malice to other companies) and am getting very disappointed with them not keeping with nameplate heritage.

Where people are getting the "new A body" thing from is that the fourth designation in GM VIN's was the platform designation, like J or X. The US Delta car's fourth VIN character is an A, so some people are referring to them as the "new A body".
Ultimately, I think the GM area where "legacy" parts carry on the closest resemblance to their "parents" is the 60 degree V6.
The J's are a good example of a platform that hardly changed at all (relatively speaking).

All of GM's mid-size and large cars should move to either the Epsilon (fwd) or Sigma (rwd) platforms, but the next Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Century/Regal will probably be interim vehicles based on an updated version of the current W-body.
The other North American model on the Sigma platform is expected to be a production vehicle inspired by the LaCrosse concept, replacing the Park Avenue as the premium Buick.
Both platforms will offer 4wd versions, so it is technically possible to produce rwd cars on the Epsilon platform as well.

The G platform was refreshed for 2000 and a two more large sedans moved to it, the Buick LeSabre and Pontiac Bonneville.

On the GM Canada site it said that it's being based on a "modified Delta platform" (and every car thus far on the Delta has been FWD, namely the Saturn ION, the Chevy Cobalt, and the Opel Astra).
Yes, it is Kappa platform, and it is going to be built about 10 miles from my house at the Boxwood Plant in Wilmington/New Castle, DE, where the late unlamented Saturn L-Series used to be produced.

Maverick- actually the Solstice/Sky are built on GM's Kappa platform, I'm pretty sure that the Vauxhall/Opel VX 220/Speedsters are built on another platform.
Im happy to see that GM is on the right track and is producing cars that are appealing and affordable to the younger and middle aged crowds.

GM 6.0/8.1, Dodge v10, Ford V10 are acceptal gasser powerplants, however they do not provide the same torque output or fuel economy as thier diesel brethern.
