Jay Spenchian has revealed to Edmunds that a Saab variant from the Kappa platform that underpins the Pontiac Solstice, a possibility that had been received with great enthusiasm, is no longer part of the future plan for Saab.
GM head honchos have previously stated that the priorities for Saab are the 9-4x and then possibly the smaller, more entry level 9-1.
I think that the Kappa platform(s) could be modified for all wheel drive with some effort; Saab's FWD setup would work as a starting point for sure.

At the time the concept was introduced, there was no good platform to build it on and maintain the wide track and the long wheelbase relative to the overall chassis length, and with rear wheel drive.
So GM developed this new platform and they are showing just what they can do with it.
The next Kappa architecture vehicle was the Chevy Nomad, a 2004 concept based on the 1954 Nomad.

The Saturn Curve concept from the 2004 North American International Auto Show was a car far different to the sensible family and budget cars usually associated with the American marque.
Designed in Sweden, constructed by Pininfarina of Italy, and built on GM's Kappa platform, as used by the Pontiac Solstice, the Curve has sports car roots, and a sports car body for that matter.
Strong, pronounced wheel arches, a high waist line, and a low roof characterised by 360° of glass beneath make for an original and attractive shape which also looks quite realistic, should the car ever be made.

I think if they did use Kappa, there wouldn't be much cost in the platform, so they could definetly spend some money on the interior and make it truly premium.
I agree with M that the EP II Platform is most likely although I'd like to see it on something smaller (maybe Delta II), It could be an extended Delta II so it slots in size between the supposed 9-1 and the 9-3.
GM can make the interior of a Kappa as high quality as it want's.

Leave it to GM to rebadge the Kappa for a Saab.
GM could preview the new corolla before toyota, just to see you all say how crappy it was, and then they could hold a joint press conference saying how it was the new corolla, and you're all stupid, and then you'd all say how great it was.
For the most part, GM vehicles are bland and several vehicles are few years behind their counterparts from other brands that have seen more recent updates.
