GNER is expected to announce plans to shed 10% of the 3,000 jobs in its York-based train operating business over the next few weeks, with catering staff being hardest hit.
GNER is said to be planning to shed up to 110 jobs at its York-based rail operation early next year, affecting 20 clerical, 50 managerial and 40 other staff.
GNER is to refurbish Peterborough railway station at a cost of £1m, as part of a £10m investment in the modernisation of facilities at key stations on the East Coast Main Line.

GNER has lodged new plans to tackle overcrowding on the east coast main line between Edinburgh and London which it said could be achieved despite today’s expected cuts in funding for upgrading the route.
GNER is proposing to run two trains an hour between London and Scotland compared to one an hour for much of the day at present.
GNER said the extra services could be achieved with track improvements at the London end of the route and near Grantham in Lincolnshire, although it would also need to lease more trains.

"GNER confirms that its 0445 Newcastle to London Kings Cross service was involved in a collision today at 0612 at Great Heck on the east coast main line between York and Doncaster.
All nine coaches of the GNER train are reported to have been de-railed by the collision.

GNER, the operator of inter-city trains on the east coast main line, suffered a severe setback yesterday after the Rail Regulator rejected its plans for a big increase in services.
In a surprise ruling, the Office of the Rail Regulator refused GNER's application to increase the number of services between London and Leeds from 53 to 65 a day and instead approved a new service from Sunderland to London to be operated by Grand Central Railway.
GNER said it "fundamentally disagreed" with the ORR's conclusions, which demonstrated "a lack of joined-up thinking in the railway industry".
