	General National Vocational Qualification - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		A General National Vocational Qualification, or GNVQ, is a certificate of vocational education in the United Kingdom.
		There are different levels of GNVQ, namely the Intermediate level ("equivalent" to four qualifications at GCSE - some controversy surrounds GNVQs and the use of them in school league tables because of this), standard it involves a lot of coursework (equivalent to two A levels).
		GNVQ qualifications can be taken in a wide range of subjects, however they are being phased out and will be completely withdrawn by October 2007.

		However, among these various schemes TVEI and GNVQ were the most significant of those aimed at students in full-time education and the comparative approach adopted in the paper throws light on some of the key characteristics of both programmes and assists in evaluating the effectiveness of different approaches to policy and curriculum development.

		The OCR GNVQ Withdrawals website will be unavailable next weekend, starting on Friday 3rd November at 1800 GMT and finishing on Sunday 5th November at 1800 GMT.
		The withdrawal of GNVQ qualifications was announced in November 2003.
		GNVQ will be withdrawn in three stages from 2005 to 2007.

		The study took place at a stage when the GNVQ was still in its infancy and consequently many of the issues surrounding the theme of 'empowerment' were entangled with the typical sorts of difficulties, or 'teething problems' associated with the early stages of implementation of any innovation.

		In 1997 business studies was added to the GNVQ part one courses and the decision taken to offer a ‘constrained option’ where all students pursued either an ICT or business course.
		The decision to withdraw GNVQ part one courses and replace them with the applied GCSE was the catalyst to move towards a key stage 4 curriculum offering GNVQ ICT for all students.

		The main requirement of the GNVQ is to produce a Portfolio of Evidence.
		This is basically a lever arch file containing all of the assignments you will produce over the duration of your course (approximately four over the year).
