GP32 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although the number of official games available for the GP32 system is limited, many open source/free software developers are working on various emulators and are porting PC games.
After months of confusion surrounding its European arrival, the GP32 BLU model was finally released in three European markets (Spain, Italy, and Portugal) on June 15, 2004 with a price point of €199.
A back lit GP32 (Released on December 2004) was given the name BLU+ by the community.

GamePark - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of the biggest reason to import the GP32 was its capacity to play DivX movies, of course in low resolution and framerate compared to a modern PC, but better than the currently existing GBA video.
Through this strategy, the powerful GP32 at the time (130 MHz and overclocked at 166 MHz and 188 MHz by some people, proving the GP32's quality due to overclock support) was the host of multiple home brew applications and games, even game makers resembling the popular game RPG maker.
The GP32 BLU (standing for Back Lit Unit) was another iteration of the GP32 (the equivalent of the Game Boy Micro), again having nothing changed in appearance, except for a now back lit screen, much better than the FLU.

Normally the GP32 does not include internal lighting, but recently a new version called the "GP32 FLU" was released, which stands for "Front Light Unit." The GP32 FLU includes the equivalent of the front light found in Afterburner GBA's or the GBA SP.
However, there's more to see on the GP32, not only because the screen is physically larger, but because it's twice the resolution of the GBA (320x240 vs. 240x160).
Included with the GP32 is a USB cord and instruction booklet, albeit in odd but comprehensible Korean style "Engrish." You're on your own for batteries and other items.

The GP32 was released a long, long time ago to an unsuspecting South Korea way back in 2001.
But this confusion soon subsided, and the GP32 has shown itself to be in no way a GBA knock-off but instead a revolutionary platform for portable emulation, homebrew, and multimedia.
This little system that was doomed from the start as a commercial console now can claim a library of thousands of titles (through the use of the many emulators and homebrew games available), and, best of all, almost every piece of software on the console is easily available and completely free.

The original GP32 (as we know it - there were also other pre-release versions which look nothing like the unit does now) was released in Korea in 2000.
Although many units have been purchased by overseas customers, the majority of the GP32 sales are in Asia, and so far there has not been a launch in another continent, although a European launch has been on and off the cards for some time.
An official release of the GP32 in 2004 now saw the inclusion of a 'proper' back light (see story at Lik-Sang).

The GP32 is a wicked little handheld gaming machine from an independant little company in Korea.
Once, a long time ago, a brave warrior named Craig decided to punish some poor poor GP32 machines; at first he thought about installing Windows on them, but not being a heartless bastard, he just overclocked them until their pants came off.
So this is a very pro-GP32 for hardware and coolness, but against the GP32 in the end due to the library..

 IGN: Hands-on with the GP32
Sounds are crystal clear and moody...again, the GP32 can handle a good range of audio because of its huge cartridge and memory size, but like Little Wizard, the sounds here do have a bit of distracting "crackle" to them when the action heats up.
Graphics on the GP32 screen are both low and high color...with basic detail given to the character sprites and power-up icons, but much more detail painted on the cutscenes and backgrounds.
Yes, the GP32 has more system memory and sound capabilities, but it doesn't seem to feature any dedicated game hardware like the GBA does.

IMO, both the GP32 and the Zodiac are somewhat underpowered, but apart from that, the GP32 has a reasonably large userbase (albeit in Korea) while the Zodiac's is marginal at best(And with that hardware at that pricepoint, I doubt that will change very quickly).

The GP32 is the first system released by Gamepark, and thus, is somewhat weaker than the GP2x.
A lot of the gp2x developers are developing for the gp32 too so a lot of the software will probably also come out on the gp2x.
BTW I am a bit surprised that the GP32 is 166Mhz and the GP2X is not much faster at 200 Mhz, I know there have been other comments about this elsewhere on this forum, hopefully the only 20% increase in speed will still allow it to do some kicka$$ stuff...
