AMWU   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-11)
When Labour were returned to power in their landslide victory in 1997, the GPMU already had in place an effective Parliamentary Group of MP’s, and that has enabled us since the Labour Government has returned to power to have a significant influence with regard to both legislation and Government policy in a number of areas.
I know that both AMICUS and the GPMU are already in the forefront of pressurising the Government to put progressive policies in their manifesto and ensuring that those policies are activated when in power and I know our merger, when it takes place, will provide a stronger platform for influence and persuasion on the Government.
The GPMU General Secretary, Tony Dubbins, was recently elected as Chair of the Trade Union Labour Party Liaison Committee, which is a direct link to Government Ministers including the Prime Minister, and provides the opportunity to articulate the views of the Unions affiliated to the Labour Party.

The GPMU’s total membership in the UK and the Republic of Ireland declined from 193,416 in 1992 to 103,242 in 2002, with a 10% decline between 2001 and 2002 alone.

We wish to express our disappointment with the London Branch of the GPMU who we understand have abolished the position of Organiser.
If this lack of concern and communication is indicative of the way the GPMU will behave in future, we wonder if we could be better represented elsewhere.
It would be a sad irony if our activists were to feel that the best advice we can offer members is a switch to a union more interested in our welfare.

They are described by two GPMUs each one with the appropriate feature indicating their type "initials" or "long form".
In order to specify that the first orthography is British and the second is American, pragmatic information concerning the geographic usage is attached to each GPMU as a whole.
The GPMU can be either seen as the actual receptacle in which the orthographic, phonological and morphological information is stored or the node from which these constituents can be accessed with specific identifiers.
