Accurate GSM Indoor Localization   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Accurate indoor localization has long been an objective of the ubiquitous computing research community, and numerous indoor localization solutions based on 802.11, Bluetooth, ultrasound and infrared technologies have been proposed.
This paper presents the first accurate GSM indoor localization system that achieves median accuracy of 5 meters in large multi-floor buildings.
In addition to the 6-strongest cells traditionally used in the GSM standard, the wide fingerprint includes readings from additional cells that are strong enough to be detected, but too weak to be used for efficient communication.

Localization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In telecommunications, localization is a technique for determining the location of a user of a GSM cell phone.
In mathematics, localization is a certain technique in abstract algebra; see also localization of a module, localization of a category.
In condensed matter physics, localization is the spatial confinement of particles in a structure.

GSM 900 uses two 25 MHz blocks of the radio frequency spectrum, called the uplink (mobile station to base station) and the downlink (base station to mobile station), as illustrated in Fig.
By cross-correlating a local copy of the training sequence with the sequence in a received burst, a GSM receiver is able to estimate the impulse response of the radio channel as an aid in demodulating the bits in the burst.
GSM achieves this by having each BTS send each MS connected to it a timing advance (TA), which is the amount by which the MS must advance the timing of its transmission to ensure that it arrives in the correct time slot.

The key advantage of GSM systems from the point of view of the consumer has been early delivery of new services at low costs, for example text messaging was developed first for GSM, whilst the advantage for network operators has been the low infrastructure cost which is caused by open competition.
GSM has remained backward compatible with the original GSM phones, at the same time, the GSM standard continues to develop and packet data capabilities were added in the Release '97 version of the standard with GPRS.
GSM's main competitor, CDMA2000, is used primarily in the United States, although it was seeing increased, but limited, worldwide adoption as a stepping stone to a 3G standard when WCDMA did not appear to be fully functional.

GSM differs significantly from its predecessors in that both signaling and speech channels are digital, which means that it is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system.
GSM retained backward-compatibility with the original GSM phones as the GSM standard continued to develop, for example packet data capabilities were added in the Release ‘97 version of the standard, by means of GPRS.
GSM also uses various satellites to redirect the voice and data packets to users across different countries, because it would be virtually impossible to connect instantly to a GSM phone located in parts of the world where they don’t have a high speed wired network.

However, the position of mobile users in a GSM network such as E-Plus cannot be determined as exactly as by means of GPS.
In fact, the GSM positioning accuracy ranges from ±100 m in urban, densely populated areas up to ±20 km in rural areas.
Localizing cell phones and their owners, respectively, for private purposes allows for a variety of potential value adding services.

Therefore, in case of co- operating of such a GSM transceiver subunit and such a GPS receiver subunit in a multiple standard communication device the GPS receiver subunit sensitivity is degraded by a factor of 1/8 or equivalently 9 dB during transmission by the GSM transceiver subunit.
The GSM 900 subunit generates a maximum output power in the range of 33 dBm and the maximum output power of the GSM 1800 and 1900 transceiver subunit is 30 dBm.
Further, the first subunit 12 adapted to receive GPS signals for localization may be provided as extra unit 26 which preferably is provided with a patch antenna 28 for the reception of the signals for localization.

The road charging system further comprises data capturing means to capture from the second network the geo- graphical localization data, locating means to establish a geographical locating of the LBS device from at least the geographical localization data, and charging means to charge depending on the locating of the LBS device.
The method comprises determining geographical localization data for the road user in a Location Based System network, transmitting the geographical localization data of the road user over a Mobile Operator Emitter network distinct from the LBS network to a central server, and locating the road user by processing the transmitted geographical localization data.

It became obvious to combine the GSM localization with a filtering function at the input and output of the service provider in order to provide just the content available at the mobile devices surrounding.
By the fact that GSM is bi-directional, the user of the mobile device can now easily user dependent select the type if information that is related to the local position or any other local position on demand.

Public concerns to newly settled GSM mobile phone base stations occur from 1998, and show increasing tendency in 2000 - 2002, but in most cases are organized spontaneously by small groups of residents or even single active individuals without sound background in knowledge of bioeffects and health risks of microwaves and/or experience in risk communication.

Using surveillance devices, intercepting and/or recording/forwarding audio conversations or GSM Data (SMS, MMS) without the consent of all the parties involved might be illegal in your country.
When anyone calls the spyphone, it rings and operates as a normal cell phone but when the phone is called using the telephone number pre defined into the spyphone, it answers automatically without any ringing or lights coming on and the display stays the same as if it is on ordinary standby.
The very controversy use of spyphone is when somebody offers one of those devices to his wife, husband, girl or boyfriend, and being able to monitor their conversation, or get a copy of their SMS sent and received (in case that you are using neo-call software).
