GT Interactive's recent financial losses mean a sad end to Cavedog's development career.
GT Interactive's third quarter fiscal 2000 results indicated a net loss of $118 million dollars compared to a net income of $17 million in the same period last year.
More importantly, what this means is that because of the loss, Cavedog, who is (or was) an in-house development studio for GT Interactive, has become one of the casualties claimed in the reorganization due to the buy-out.

Unless of course the defendant is the giant GT Interactive and the plaintiff is StarPlay, a small privately held software publisher based in Colorado, US.
When StarPlay was made aware of the situation through a European distributor, the company apparently tried several times to resolve the situation with GT Interactive, until StarPlay produced evidence that GT Interactive had no license to reproduce the game.
GT Interactive has not replied publicly to the lawsuit as of yet.

GT Interactive has filed a lawsuit against former partner Midway Entertainment, claiming that the company intentionally engaged in tactics that were intended to harm the company's bottom line.
GT states that Midway repeatedly failed to provide game-development schedules, bug-free masters, artwork, advertising and packaging materials, and third-party approvals in an attempt to sabotage GT Interactive's requirements to retain the distribution rights to Midway products.
Not only that, but GT Interactive claims that Midway provided false public statements that put GT Interactive in a bad light, defaming the company's ability to effectively market and distribute Midway's games.

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - GT Interactive Software Corp. said on Monday it filed a civil complaint against its distribution partner, Midway Games Inc., seeking "tens of millions of dollars" in compensatory and punitive damages.
     GT Interactive (GTIS) said that in late 1994, it entered into a series of contracts with Midway that gave it exclusive distribution rights.
     A GT Interactive spokesperson said the company expects to meet those goals, but was filing the suit as a safety measure should it fall short.

Palo Alto (California), Oct 6: GT Interactive SoftwareCorp, looking to gain a bigger share of the video game business, said that it agreed to buy rival MicroProse Inc for about $250 million in stock.
The deal would make GT Interactive, publisher of best-sellers like "Duke Nukem" and "Oddworld," the second-largest US game software company, behind Electronic Arts Inc, with more than $500 million in annual revenue.
Since early 1996, GT has bought seven video game software companies to be able to sell more products it developed internally.
