Talsorian's Cyberpunk was a fairly decent game, but the mechanics of the simulation system left a lot to be desired.
*GURPS Cyberpunk,* like the other GURPS "modules," was not a "game" like a Monopoly set, but a *book:* a bound paperback book the size of a glossy magazine, with a slick color cover, and pages full of text, illustrations, tables and footnotes.

Rather than discussing why Cyberpunk 2020 is the gold standard right away (we will get to that soon enough) I wanted to mention why the games I am disqualifying as a benchmark failed to impress.
Cyberpunk 2020 is a great game from a mechanical standpoint, but it was always presented with a flair that made it look even better.
The 'New Kids' of cyberpunk are the games that have been released since 2001, and are definitely marketed or perceived by the fans as cyberpunk; whether they are cyberpunk remains to be seen, but we will get to that.

No. A GURPS book devoted to robots is planned and David Pulver (author of GURPS Ultratech) is scheduled to write it, but this will not be written until David finishes writing the GURPS Vehicles book.
GURPS Autoduel has many more features of the cyberpunk genre but it is currently out of print.

As it happened, this never came out because the decision to launch GURPS 4E saw this and many other GURPS 3E projects cancelled or remodelled, but the concept was identical to what has now become the 4E version of GURPS Fantasy.
GURPS Cyberpunk looked just like a modern HERO System line from the moment it first came out, back in 1990.
GURPS doesn't quite have that situation, but they're not all that far off when you look at how the sourcebooks relate to each other.

 The Dark Future in Four-Color
The dark future dystopia of cyberpunk has lent itself to being blended with many other genres, from the fantasy magic of Shadowrun to the creeping eldrich horror of Cthulupunk.
Superhero campaigns can be advanced into a Superpunk era by projecting them 50 to 100 years into the future and cyberpunk campaign worlds can be modified by adding some additional background to them to account for the presence of metahumans and super-powers.
The cult might just be a cover from some bizarre scam or a front for a group of psionic supers but it might also be for real, in which case it's going to be a real hot time in the old town tonight.

It is possible and not to hard to change the magic and monster part of Shadowrun into TL 8 technology, if you play straight GURPS Cyberpunk.
And the helicopter is harder to shoot down in GURPS than a dragon in Shadowrun, increasing the challenge.
With the GURPS Bestiary (see the review) and GURPS Magic it is easy to find the GURPS statistics for the paranormal animals or to create new ones inspired by them.

Cyberpunk 2020 sounds like it'd be a good match, from what I've heard of it.
If you're a GURPS fan, the GURPS version of Eden's Conspiracy X coupled with GURPS Cyberpunk would probably do the trick nicely.
You could even add the forthcoming GURPS Covert Ops into the mix as well.

"To Thine Own Self Be True" was a GURPS Cyberpunk/Voodoo campaign that we played from 2/1/96 to 11/7/96.
The setting was the "usual" cyberpunk one- marauding rape gangs, huge bloodthirsty corporations, random and senseless violence, etc; basically, a bleak and oppressive future.
Unfortunately much of it was scanned straight out of GURPS Cyberpunk, so I'm unwilling to post it for public consumption.

They have strange enclaves of cultures and new clamp-on cybernetics (which gives me vibes of several sentai shows) instead of the more classic "sticking up to the Man while doing this whole introspection of tech affecting humanity thing on a rainy, grimy street" feel.
Transhuman Space and Blue Planet are all good in themselves, but I just want a straight up Cyberpunk game with a solid system and a setting that updates all the ideas and themes to this century, much like Ghost in the Shell (in its various incarnations) has done.
At least with the GURPS i can port in various other books of the Gurps lines, such as my Ultra-Tech, Bio-Tech, Supernatural Creatures Books, ect...into one system, and one New World Setting.
