I could also lower the registered GVWR on my truck to 14,900# and leave the trailer at 11,100# to stay in Class C. Of course if I ever get pulled over and weighed, the actual weights of the truck and trailer have to be at or below their respective registered GVWRs or "else".....
I left my truck GVWR at 9000#, but did change my stock trailer from 14,400# to 7000#, since that is the most I would ever carry in it.
GVWR is determined as to what the truck can carry verses what it weighs.

The only apparent reason to remove the manufacturer's GVWR plate or VIN number is to make it impossible for roadside enforcement officers to determine the applicability of part 383, which has a GVWR threshold of 26,001 pounds.
When the vehicle is used to perform functions normally performed by a vehicle with a higher GVWR, §390.33 allows an enforcement officer to treat the actual gross weight as the GVWR of the modified vehicle.

The terms GVWR and GCWR are NOT interchangeable.
Perhaps the higher rated MDT's have that GVWR but I do not think that any of the big three in the 350-3500 size are going to have that capability.
When you ignore GVWR there are other issues to deal with besides braking; suspension, drive line angles, steering, are just a few.

That is GVWR - the R stands for Rating, as in what it is rated as being *able* to carry.
I do feel that an 'RV' endorsement for a G liscense would be a good idea for units over a certain weight and size, along with a course and road test but as for now its not the law.
If that should be GVWR, then I may be over - I'm not sure what the GVWR is on my trailer, but I know that the GVW is less........

Commercial vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or greater, or which transport more than 8 passengers, or haul hazardous materials requiring placards, are required by Rule 19 of the Idaho Motor Carrier Rules to have an assigned DOT number.

GVWR of my truck in the papers is 8003 lb (3630kg), vehicle weight is 6283 lb (2850kg) and by Slovenian law I need licence for truck to drive it (of course I don’t have this licence).
The GVWR on a truck isn't determined so much by the springs anyway as it is by the axles you have under the truck.
If you were to switch the suspension to that of a W150 or W100 and then switch the axles to a Dana 44 up front and Chrysler 9.25 in the rear, your payload capacity would be comparable to that of a W150 or W100.

I certainly am not a member of this forums weight police as I firmly believe in using the legal GVWR set by your state when you tag/title/register your truck which was used long time before this web or forum.
My 2500 truck [see sig and is the same as yours] has a legal GVWR, set by the state, up to 15000 lbs and I have always use a uprate GVWR tag.
