Conall recalled the children of Gabhran but died before their return in 568 after a reign of ten years.
Conall was succeeded by his younger brother Kintellus, who courteously entertained Aedan of Dalriada, son of Gabhran and on his deathbed resigned to him.

Gabhran was initially successful, and he seems to have established a rapport with a northern British enclave of the Gododdin in the Mearns around modern Brechin.
Gabhran married Luan, the daughter of Brychan of the Gododdin and the granddaughter of Dumnagual Hen.
Gabhran's death is recorded in the same year, but whether that was a consequence of the battles, or another reason, is not known.

Aidan Mac Gabhran and his wife, Ygerna Del Acqs, gave birth to eight children, the second of which was a son, born in 559, whom they named Arthur, and who became known as Arthur of Dalriada.
The Dalriada expansion westward and northward across Alba and into the lands of the Picts continued relatively unabated until the 10th Century.
