Gabor A. Somorjai (born May 4, 1935 -) is currently a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and is a leading researcher in the field of surface chemistry.
Gabor's idea, which came to him while he was sitting on a bench at a tennis club in London in 1947, was to take an electron picture, distorted by problems with the lens, but one that could be corrected by optical means utilizing light.
