  Frontier Trails Across Gage County
The monument still stands near the village of Lanham and is part of the Gage County Historical Society's properties.
The DeRoin Trail ran from Brownville near the town of St. DeRoin to Beatrice and on to meet the Oregon Trail near Alexandria.
The Reservation Road, ran from Marysville, Kansas north to the Otoe-Missouri reservation in southern Gage County and followed the Blue River to either Beatrice or connected with the DeRoin Trail and traveled northeast.

  Gage County
Gage County is said to have had the country's first homestead entered under the U.S. Homestead Act of 1862.
Gage County was established by the Territorial Legislature on March 15, 1855.
The county's first courthouse was built in 1870, but within 15 years the building had become too dangerous and county offices were moved to a nearby bank building.

The county rate was 1.5 times as high as the Nebraska 2010 target rate of 50.0 low weight births per 1,000.

 Andreas' History of the State of Nebraska - Gage Co. Part 6
In 1865, he settled in Pawnee County, Neb., taking a homestead in Section 31, Town 5, Range 5, remaining four years on his place, when he located in Beatrice, and was engaged in farming; then went into the law office with his brother, remaining three years.
He was County Judge of old Clay County, and Clerk of the same county, which is now part of Gage County, in early days; was also one of the first Commissioners of Seward County.
He has been President of the School Board, and is one of the Vice Presidents of the Gage County Agricultural Society; he is an A., F. M., and a member of I. F., being Past Grand Master of the latter; he is a member of the Blue Lodge, Chapter and Commandery.

In Johnson County, Mary Erickson told KETV NewsWatch 7 that she lost part of her roof and a chicken house.
Gage County farmer Don Shuster said he lost a barn and had another machine shed moved about 3 feet off its foundation during the storm.

Between 1897 and 1910, Gage County contracted for perhaps as many as two hundred of these standardized riveted Warren pony trusses.
The bridge is first mentioned in Book 1 of the Gage County Supervisors' Records in October 1874, when a contract was awarded to paint the structure.

Murray and Gary Wingrove, an emergency medical consultant from Rochester, Minn., arrived in Gage County late Monday afternoon after consulting earlier in the day with Lincoln and Lancaster County emergency medical leaders and with Cortland Fire and Rescue personnel.

That year Gage County contracted with the King Iron Bridge Company of Cleveland to erect a single-span iron bridge at the mill.
Nebraska counties began purchasing all-iron trusses in the 1870s, and by the next decade several hundred of these utilitarian structures had been built in the state's eastern region.
Forming the centerpiece for the small town, the Blue Springs Bridge carried wagon traffic for twenty years before it was moved to the western edge of Beatrice, the county seat.

By the spring of 1857, however, white men "in considerable numbers" went as far west as the Nemaha Valley in what was then "Clay County," now northern Gage.
Adams held "squatter sovereignty" over his 160 acres and claimed the title of "first settler" in the county, long before homestead laws were established.
On July 6, 1857, the Stephen P. Shaw family, consisting of 21 members, arrived in six wagons and settled on the north side of the Nemaha River about a mile west of Adams'.

 Congressman Jeff Fortenberry, First District of Nebraska - Gage County
The house Harvey built is still standing and is recorded as the oldest frame house still in use in Boone County.
On March 28, 1872, Harvey Maricle was named the Boone postmaster, and the house served as the local post office.
Harvey was also one of the first county commissioners and their first meeting was held in Harvey's home.
