Gail Simone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Simone is also the writer of DC's 2005 Villains United limited series (part of the lead-in to Infinite Crisis), and its spin-off, the limited series Secret Six.
After the dispute with Marvel, Simone moved on to DC Comics, where she was given the Birds of Prey title (beginning with issue #56) featuring the all-female group consisting of Oracle, Black Canary, The Huntress, Lady Blackhawk, Lady Shiva, and Gypsy.
While Simone maintained her usual enthusiastic stance, fandom was quick to lambast the promotional art Liefeld produced in tandem with the PR announcement.

 The Gail Simone Dialogues
Simone: Just learning the ropes...what's essential for the artist to show and what's merely optional, and writing the Simpsons is tough because you don't have the voice actors to back it up, so your dialogue has to be spot-on, or it just doesn't flow.
Simone: Well, it was my first ongoing title, so it was a bit of a curveball to be thrown, but since we got to keep the same team together, and people were responding so well to our Deadpool, it did become a fun challenge.
Simone: This is tricky stuff, because it's an editor's job to do what he thinks is best for the book, but it's fair to say that despite the fact that we both tried very hard, there was trouble from the very first phone call.

At the same time though, Simone said that she and Byrne will be delving on the implied promise made by the title, that is, action.

Of all the people who have contributed to the WRITER'S BLOCK Gail Simone is definitely one of them.
Simone was first known for her must-read column on comicbookresources.com.
Writing titles such as "DEADPOOL" and "GUS BEEZER" for MARVEL COMICS and then scripting the adventures of the "BIRDS OF PREY" for D.C. As of this writing, Gail is working exclusively with D.C. Simone's singular voice and wry wit makes me predict that her current titles will be one of the top five books.

SIMONE: How similar is this story to the much-discussed "Superman 2000" revamp of the character that was proposed by you, Grant Morrison, Mark Millar and Tom Peyer a few years back?

Comic Book Resources - CBR News: CCI Xtra: Spotlight on Gail Simone
In addition to "Birds of Prey," Simone discussed her other current projects, which are "Secret Six" and "The Atom" for DC, as well as a new book called "Tranquility" and a revival of "Gen 13" for Wildstorm.
Simone made a sad face and "aww…" sound, then said regretfully that although she loves Gus Beezer, there are no plans to do any more stories in that series, but went on to say that she would very much like to do another project along similar lines with a different character.
Two questions were asked about topics specific to the regular visitors to the You'll All Be Sorry forum; the first concerned Simone's decision to insert one of her fans into a "Birds of Prey" arc after he assisted her with research and dialect for the scenes set in Singapore.

GAIL SIMONE OF BOP SIGNS EXCLUSIVE WITH DC
Tacitly interwoven in signing the agreement, obviously, is the creator’s confidence in the publisher, and Simone has that, thanks in no small part to DC going the extra mile to make the agreement fir her needs.
That said, Simone did acknowledge the cold truth of exclusives — that effectively, the competition is a closed door for the duration.
The agreement with DC affords Simone (and Simone’s fans) something quite enjoyable to look forward to — an extended run on Birds of Prey, a series which has been gaining buzz — and sales — since Simone and Ed Benes took the regular creative reigns.

SIMONE: That was my complaint in previous re-imaginings of the character...that the writers often skipped the bits where Metropolis and the Planet employees are very skeptical, and too comfortable with both Clark AND Superman.
