	Galaxidi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Galaxidi (Greek, Modern: Γαλαξίδι, Ancient/Katharevousa: -on), is a town and a municipality located in the southern part of the prefecture of Phokida.
		Galaxidi has a school, a lyceum, a gymnasuim, a church, a post office, banks and a square (plateia) which is located 50 km from the sea.
		Maritime Museum of Galaxidi, a museum which includes the Galaxidi Chronicle which was published by KN Sathas in 1865.

		In 1860, Galaxidi managed to have its shipyards in operation again and, at the same time, they formed 3 nautical insurance companies with founders and members responsible to pay in case of a ship damage of another member depending on the proportion of contribution which was based on the ship's value.

		he building that now houses the archaeological collection of Galaxidi was constructed in the 1830's and until 1870 it func-tioned as a carpet industry where the sailors' wives were oc- cupied.
		Later it housed the Municipality of Galaxidi and in 1932, the Maritime Gallery of the town.
		In 1979 the finds from the area of Galaxidi were transfered from the Museum of Delphi to the Maritime Museum and were exhibited in one of its rooms.

		Galaxidi had been left without defence with only few men who fought heroically until the end.The city which had cultivated and taught the highest virtues of honesty,dignity with its heritage and riches was burned and destroyed in one day.
