Galeon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Galeon was the first mainstream graphical web browser which specifically focused on the reduction of peripheral functionality.
Galeon is also famous for introducing "Smart Bookmarks", bookmarks that take an argument and can be used as toolbar buttons with a text field used to enter the value for the argument.
As of May 2005 Galeon is still under active development, though other comparable browsers have appeared including Mozilla's own Firefox browser, and the K-Meleon browser available for Microsoft Windows.

 Galeon at a glance
Galeon is based on two classic philosophies: "Do one thing and do it well" and "Don't re-invent the wheel".
Galeon is fairly stable, although it does crash more often than we would like.
Galeon though is very helpful with these crashes, the next time you start; it allows you to recover your previous session.

Galeon would not start properly for me until I unset this, I was probably pointing at the wrong tree.

but still i had to patch galeon (undragable toolbar, spinner url is the same for your homepage and disabled tooltips) so the patch is really small which you can get it here.

We've gotten many questions about why Galeon is the way it is, and here is the answer.
Shiny new galeon release, largely provoked by the release of mozilla 1.4 final, although strangely enough, 1.3.5 is source compatible with 1.4; the first time that's ever happened since before mozilla 1.0.
After a couple of months of quiet, we are happy to announce the release of new version of galeon from both the stable and gnome2 branches.

Galeon is a GNOME Web browser based on Gecko (the Mozilla rendering engine).
It is nice, but Galeon's not the first browser to implement tab functionality - Opera's had it for a while.
Personally, I think Galeon is a neat frontend for Gecko, but it's difficult not to scoff when the Galeon manifesto is to produce a bloat-free browser and the main pre-requisite is one of the most bloated browsers available :P

LinuxPlanet - Previews - Looking at the Galeon Web Browser - The Bare Essentials
The browser component, when it's all said and done, will be available on its own, much as Navigator is still available separate from Communicator, but Mozilla remains a large project, one eye trained on a market dominated by Microsoft and slightly more conditioned in its expectations with each passing day.
Enter galeon, a GNOME/GTK-based browser that has taken the Gecko rendering engine (Mozilla's heart) and put it to work in a small, fast browser that does nothing more than render pages, store bookmarks, and provide all the speed of Gecko in a remarkably small bundle.
Since the actual galeon binary is launched from a shell script, you can simply set the variable at the top of the script if you haven't already designated it at login.

Personally I see Galeon 1.0 as I got it with Mandrake Linux 8.2, is very fast than our Konqueror 3.0.
Java Applets are loaded quite fast and Galeon automatically detects the plugin (if Jre/jdk installed).
I have to agree with that, for me galeon is _much_ faster at web browsing than konqueror in kde3.
