The Department of Education provided the old Vuyolwetho School in Galeshewe for the purpose of this project and the facility was officially opened in October 2003 by the Northern Cape MEC for Health, with strong statements of support from her.
The children are attending public school and two are enrolled at the Galeshewe Educare Centre doing grade R. The ECD Centre was largely funded through monies raised after the passing of Warren Symcox, a former De Beers employee and was recently opened at a wonderful ceremony by his wife, Linda.
The Centre is used by children from the Haven and the community and the Centre follows a normal pre-school programme with stimulation and preparation for formal schooling a part of the programme.

The historic township of Galeshewe is the first in the new year to be earmarked for the launch of this presidential project.
Galeshewe also has the honour of having being designated as a national heritage site by the South African Heritage Resources Unit under the Department of Arts, Culture Science and Technology.
Galeshewe was among several urban and rural nodes, which were identified by a presidential task team early last year as being worthy of receiving this much-needed upgrade to their civil infrastructure.

The project, developed by the National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW), is a model to implement comprehensive and integrated care to children who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and who increasingly are members of child-headed households.
This model has been piloted in three different sites to test various environments and in each case the NACCW has selected a local childcare organisation as its partner in the implementation, development and monitoring of the model.
It is estimated that about 400 children in 100 child-headed households will be serviced during the first year of the project.

 Policeman convicted on murder charge
The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) wishes to inform that Reservist Constable Ronald Mannie (34), charged with the murder of Moses Makila (17) in April 2001 was sentenced in the Kimberly Regional Court on Monday, 11 November 2002.
The incident occurred in Galeshewe in the Northern Cape Province on 25 April 2001 where Const Mannnie killed a civilian by shooting him once below the eye and he died on the scene.
An argument ensued between the boys and the police, which resulted in the shooting of this youth by Const Mannie, who at the time of the incident was stationed at SAPS Galeshewe.

Tony Modise, a police spokesperson, said police received a tip-off about the man and the women, aged 21, 27 and 34, being in possession of the containers before raiding their houses yesterday.
He said more than 20 containers and other ATM parts were found and confiscated at four houses - two in Galeshewe and one each in Phomolong and Retswelele.
Modise said some of the containers were broken and it was not known whether they had had money inside when taken.

Mashay Gamieldien, a police spokesperson, says the suspects gained entry to the house through a kitchen door, while the owner of the house was at work.

Police are searching for six men who abducted and raped a 17-year-old over a three-week period in Kathu in the Northern Cape, police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent Hendrik Swart said the girl was abducted from her home in Galeshewe, Kimberley, on March 1.
She was approached by six men in a beige Toyota Cressida and got into the car after they asked her to give them directions to a tuckshop.

The data for this research report was gathered during the last three months of 2002, through a series of meetings with officials involved in the NURP (both at national and local levels), from documents related to the URP's, and from site visits and meetings at some of the nodes.
These include such areas as Tsolo in the Eastern Cape, Thabong in the Free State, Katlehong in Gauteng, Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal, KaNyamazana in Mpumalanga, Mafikeng in the North West, Galeshewe in the Northern Cape, Thohoyandou in the Northern Province and Mitchells's Plain in the Western Cape.
We will therefore make multi-disciplinary interventions in these areas, starting with a few pilot areas, drawing in all spheres of government and engaging the people themselves in an offensive to ensure that we reduce the levels of crime in these areas which are characterised by a high incidence of crime.
