Murree and the Galiyat areas lie at the foot of the Himalayas in Pakistan on an alpine hill tract.
They comprise a number of settlements that were established by the British as summer hill-stations for their families to escape the heat of the Indian plains.
The leopard found on the west of the Indus is known as the Persian leopard (Panthera pardus saxicolour) and on the west of it is called the ‘Indian leopard (Panthera pardus fusca) which is the species commonly found in Murree and the Galiyat region.

ABBOTTABAD, Dec 21 (APP): Upper Galiyat received moderate snowfall while heavy rains and hailstorm lashed Abbottabad and adjoining areas on Thursday.
All link roads in Galiyat area were reported closed either by snow or by landsliding.
Meanwhile, power remained suspended in Galiyat area due to snowfall.

 Wildlife Campaigns: Saving the Common Leopard in Pakistan
Hundreds of small and medium apartment schemes have started all over the Galiyat and the number of people setting up home here is unprecedented.
There is no place left for them to hide themselves, there fore all the wild animals including the leopards move to the communities protected areas, closer to the homes, where ever they find some shelters.
A couple of weeks ago, two alleged man-eaters were trapped and shot dead by NWFP wildlife officials, who had called in police commandos after six villagers were killed in a spate of attacks in the Galiyat area.

Due to thick forests of deodar, pine, fir and oak trees, the area usually received maximum rainfall which filled the two major reservoirs of the country and recharged various local streams and aquifers of the arid regions downstream.
The greatest victims were the conifer forests of the lower Himalayan belt (Murree, Patriata, Galiyat, including the forests of AJK and the Kaghan-Naran Valley).
The declining trend of monsoon rains is another serious threat to Pakistan's climate and its economy.

I was watching Geo TV and its correspondent in Murree aired the interview of a girl from Galiyat asking President Musharraf to personally visit the area and do something for her and her family stuck in the heavy snowfall.
The very next day Geo TV reported that on President’s orders, the military force in Murree Garrisons rushed to Galiyat and other areas to clear ways and rooftops and rescue the people trapped there.
