	Gallows - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		These gallows in Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park are maintained by Arizona State Parks.
		A gallows is a frame, typically wooden, used for execution by hanging.
		The infamous Tyburn gallows was triangular in plan, with three uprights and three crossbeams, allowing up to 24 criminals to be executed along all three sides.

		Instead of the conventional gallows that dropped the prisoner through a trap door, some states used a method where weights connected to the rope jerked the prisoner upwards when the weights were released by the hangman.
		The gallows was erected between the first and second floor balconies of the prison, spanning the whole width between the wall and the balconies with a 25 foot beam over a 15 feet long x 5 feet wide trap.

		Although the name "Gallows Hill" has been used in many traditional histories of Albany, we have yet to find a definition or description of the place or direct evidence that hangings took place there before the American Revolution.
