Game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A game is a structured or semi-structured, contrived recreational activity, usually undertaken for enjoyment (although sometimes for physical or vocational training).
Games were important to Wittgenstein's later thought; he held that language was itself a game consisting of tokens governed by rough-and-ready rules that arise by convention and are not strict.
Games of pure skill are likely the oldest sort of game and are found in all cultures, regardless of their level of material culture.

Game theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Game theory is a hybrid branch of applied mathematics and economics that studies strategic situations where players choose different actions in an attempt to maximize their returns.
Game theorists may assume players always act rationally to maximize their wins (the Homo economicus model), but real humans often act either irrationally, or act rationally to maximize the wins of some larger group of people (altruism).
Game theory experienced a flurry of activity in the 1950s, during which time the concepts of the core, the extensive form game, fictitious play, repeated games, and the Shapley value were developed.

GAME : Greatly Abbreviated Mechanics, Etc.
The idea of GAME is to provide an ultra-compact, flexible system that can be fit onto a single 8.5" x 11" piece of paper, front and back.
GAME serves only as the barest guideline for roleplaying and leaves all details to the GM's judgement, and is meant to ease on-the-fly additions.
Disclaimer: The GAME is obviously only a bare skeleton of mechanics, and leaves most of the fleshing out to the GM and players.

But, as long as you limited yourself to what the game understood and the game designers wrote creatively enough to misunderstand you in a humorous and entertaining fashion, it all worked.
It therefore stands to reason that any game which combined a really good programmer with a really good writer was likely to do well.
Then graphics games came along and the computer using portion of the human race forgot all about 500,000 years of language evolution and went straight back to the electronic equivalent of banging rocks together - the point'n'click game.

GameSpy: Will Wright Presents Spore... and a New Way to Think About Games
This isn't so much a game preview as it is a look at new thoughts on game design in full effect.
Their procedural programming methods were able to, for example, fit an entire 3D game in 64K, using mathematics to generate textures and music, etc. "I just found this incredibly exciting," Wright confesses, describing the kinds of work that he saw come out of the demo scene.
So here's what he did: he recruited an elite strike team of coders (who, if you were to believe his slideshow, dressed like ninjas) and put them in a "hidden facility" to experiment with new ways of giving the user powerful tools and generating tons of dynamic content without armies of content creators.

Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing for PC Review - PC Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing Review   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Big Rigs is a game so astoundingly bad that it manages to transcend nearly every boundary put forth by some of gaming's absolute worst of the worst and easily makes it into that dubiously extraordinary category of being one of the most atrocious games ever published.
In theory, Big Rigs is supposed to be a racing game based on big trucks that speed through various US trucking routes in some kind of effort to deliver cargo before the competition gets there first--or else the truck gets busted by the law.
The basic idea in the actual game is that you pick one from four vaguely different trucks and then one from five vaguely different levels.

Most recently — and this is what we discuss here - he has written an illustrated encyclopedia of game machines, in german, the language of his people.
It reads chronologically, and while it condenses most of the early home pong variants (and the like) into the intro, the progression feels logical, and by and large most consoles are given good reasons for their deaths, and not without a tear shed.
Perhaps the one that will give the fanboys the biggest trouble is that Forster says Dreamcast game development ended in 2004, when games were released in 2005, and some are still coming for 2006.
