  IGN: Game Boy Micro
There isn't a battery light, but the Micro does the SP and GBA one better on that -- the Select and Start buttons light up in two-tone colors, glowing at start-up (or while plugged in) with a blue light to show when there's enough charge and going red when the system is almost dead.
This is one of the sort of hidden surprises with the GB Micro, and even though it's an advertised feature (the package even comes with three faceplates), it kind of catches you off-guard when you first pry at the plate and it comes off.
The GB Micro isn't exactly the ideal way to enjoy Game Boy Advance games, but don't misjudge it by its size.

Consumer conversion to proprietary accessories is an idea that is no different from any other Game Boy release, as buyers generally had to upgrade their accessories along with the new unit for the releases of Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.
At $99, the Game Boy Micro is the same price as a Nintendo GameCube (as of the 2005 holiday, with a free copy of Mario Party 7 and an extra controller), $20 more expensive than the backlit and original Game Boy Advance SP and $30 cheaper than the more functional and sophisticated Nintendo DS.
The Game Boy Micro's backlit screen, which is superior to the Game Boy Advance SP's, has been praised for its visibility.

The Game Boy Advance, although a bit clunky, was touted for its Super Nintendo-like graphics but criticized for its lack of a backlight (can you recall Castlevania?).
In spite of this small size, the button configuration on the Game Boy Micro is similar to the GBA SP, with the standard A and B buttons to on the right and two shoulder buttons at the top of the unit.

Last week, AMN received their Game Boy Micro units [which released on September 13th in Japan], one of which contained the nearly sold-out 20th anniversary of Mario edition, the ever-elusive Famicom version.
Sure, the Game Boy Micro’s screen is a tad smaller than that of the GBA SP, and certainly that of the Nintendo DS, but it’s hard to complain about a Nintendo portable that has been improved hardware-wise.
Comparably, the Game Boy Micro (Famicom theme) may only be sold in limited quantities in Japan, but its initial faceplate that of the original Nintendo system’s controller design certainly brings a smile to collectors of gaming memorabilia.

However, the Micro is in an awkward position sales-wise, as for a little less money you can enjoy the luxury of a larger screen with a new SP, or for a little more expense you can pick up Nintendo's latest innovation, the DS.
The game pak is inserted in the bottom of the system off to the side, which looks a little awkward with larger cartridges like Yoshi's Topsy Turvy or Warioware.

Nintendo Game Boy Micro review - infoSync World
Small enough to clip on a key chain, the Game Boy Micro trumps the vast majority of mobile phones yet sports a truly brilliant 2-inch display which, alongside that of the DS, is Nintendo's best to date despite its 32K colour limitation.
Granted, it's a bit small, but it still assumes the majority of the front of the device - also host to the venerable Game Boy setup consisting of a four-way controller as well as A and B buttons; shoulder buttons in chrome are also part of the line-up.
Although quite good, the controller setup of the Game Boy Micro leaves a bit to be desired in the tactile department as there is no proper distinction to acknowledge when a button has been pressed.
