  RPGFan News- RPGFan's New Design!
GameFan offered us free hosting with unlimited space and bandwidth on a fast server and the opportunity to be on a network where we could get more exposure.
I'd be pretty stupid to turn this down now wouldn't I? Of course, all sites on the network need to have the GameFan Network logo and ad on the pages which is normal since they have to cover their cost also for the server and all that so it's a fair deal.
GameFan Network has been really supportive (especially ECM from GameFan and the server guy) and the network has a bright future in my opinion.

Gamefan eventually sent me a letter approximately two years after I placed my subscription, saying that they were "very sorry" and would "rectify the situation with a full year's subscription for free".
Gamefan's main promise over the years was it's claim to cater to the hardcore gamer by covering import games, and games that other magazines wouldn't cover because they didn't come from a large game developer that paid them large sums of money to put a picture of their game on the font of their magazine.
But towards the end of Gamefan's lifespan, it just sort of got ridiculous, especially since other magazines like EGM was starting to cover more of the Japanese gaming scene, as anime and Japanese games started to become more mainstream.

 GameFan - Magweasel
GameFan (originally Diehard GameFan) is a magazine devoted to console games, with an emphasis on RPGs, Japanese imports, and the "hardcore" side of video-game fandom.
GameFan was always published with the spirit of a fanzine, and the magazine was rarely, if ever, profitable.
Express.com was less interested in GameFan than the $55 million in investment money Bergstein had just received from Eidos, but the magazine continued on, despite a very rocky 1998 -- only five issues were published, and the magazine became subscriber-only in all but name towards the middle of the year.

 gamefan mag - Neo-Geo Forums
Express.com owned gamefan and pretty much just saw it as a way to advertise the games and crap that the had.
Gamefan IMHO was THE mag to get every month when it was being published if you were into import gaming.
But I agree that Gamefan was tehb est gaming magazine ever, i have every issue from the Sonic 2 cover until it's untimely death.

Gamefan est le seul mag que je lis.

Indeed, there appeared to be trouble almost the moment Express.com acquired Gamefan Online, as was evidenced by a couple of articles that ran in GameWEEK (here's the first, and here's the second).
The twin tales of woe - based on a source inside the company - were staunchly unjoyous, and after these incisive articles Express.com Damage Control cranked up the propaganda machine for a public response.
In that thread you'll find a few personal accounts, see a link or two to some external commentary, read some discussion of the current Ad Network's chances, and likely come away from the whole thing with a sense of vague unease.

 The Death of Banner Ads
Yup, since Gamefan's staff couldn't bring in enough companies to advertise on their network and as a result my site was serving up network ads, they aren't going to pay me a dime.
I really worry for anybody hosted by a network that serves a lot of network ads, because if they're financially in trouble like Gamefan was, these webmasters could find themselves not getting a single dime for all their hard work, hits, and ads they served up.
Because of Express.com and Gamefan deciding to "fulfill these contractual obligations", I am now over $3,000 in debt for server bills during the months I was hosted by them.

 The Gaming Intelligence Agency
GameFan, while it was around, had glossy paper and pretty pictures, but they tended to give their highest ratings to obscure Japanese games that were never released in the U.S. Nowadays, PSM and Next Gen are probably the best, and ODCM was cool, while it lasted.
Of course gamefan did use the wacky faces for reviews, but they did it long before game--this is best game ever--pro.
Gamefan was not the best out there, i'm sure, but I liked it.

Although Gamefan.com, a videogame site that Express.com owns, was down Monday because of technical difficulties related to a server switch, a spokesman for Express.com said he expected the site to be fully operational soon.
Although Express.com is trying to help the Gamefan Network sites find new hosts, the spokesman conceded that most of the sites will go away.

Gamers.com posted an interview with Daniel Wool, PR director for GameFan.
As you may remember, on Friday (story) GameFan gave all its hosted sites until today to find a new host.

Gamefan (also known as Diehard Gamefan) was a well-loved multi-platform magazine published in the US.
I am not a big fan of their layout style, but the magazines themselves are of incredibly high quality - reading an issue is more like thumbing through a Prima strategy guide than a regular (relatively flimsy) magazine.

Upon completing the game we have realized that the translation overall was excellent, and hereby would like to apologize to everyone at Working Designs for the misunderstanding which ensued.
Now that the public at large knows the truth, and because Gamefan was finally big enough to own up to the error, things will return to normal starting with advertising and Working Designs news in the June or July issues.
