Isn't "Games people play" the biggest psychology blockbuster in American publishing history?
A typical example of a game described in a book is where a husband more or less deliberately makes or allows his wife screw up (by failing to take simple, obvious precautions) just so he can get pissed at her and start a shouting argument.

I look upon these games as mini-tragedies caused by a lack of honesty and logic.

 Wax Banks: Play and learning.
There's book learning, there's applied learning - and then there's this play learning, where the fruits of your labors don't have to be practical per se, just fun (though they often end up being useful in their own right).
Reading, playing games: games and narratives are devices for structuring passion and attention.
The difference between learning from books and 'applied learning' and 'play learning' isn't in their content, I think - it's in their motivation, or rather, who provides that motivation.

The book features complete instructions for the play of several games invented by Sackson and the clever people from his gaming group.

Chessville - Instruction - General - Suggestions for Improving Your Play
For people at the beginner or novice level, I suggest primarily playing G/30 games, (“G/30” means that each player has 30 minutes to complete all of his or her moves; i.e., the whole game cannot last for more than 60 minutes).
Endgames: Just as with openings, I think the most efficient way to learn endings is to look over the endgame of each game you play (assuming that the game actually made it to the endgame, rather than ending with mate in the first 10 moves.
And even if you already know how to play, I highly advise that you read this book, including the first chapter on the basic rules, in order to make sure that there are no gaps in your knowledge of the basics, and to get you started on the more intermediate concepts.

 Cracking
Consequently, any form of hacking has come under scrutiny and this includes the hacking (cracking) of video games.  The media has caught on and hyped the hacker as an enemy of the people.  The hacker, according to mainstream culture, is anti-social and seeks to undermine the very fabric of society.
There are groups of people who crack video games for fun.
For this research project I have adopted to use “clan” as the nomenclature for referring to these cracking groups.  These clans give themselves a name and develop an entire little community of people.  They try to be the first to come out with a crack to a video game and distribute them.
