Gamma Ray at the end of a show in Barcelona.
Gamma Ray is a power metal band from Germany, founded by former Helloween guitarist, singer and songwriter Kai Hansen.

Gamma ray - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gamma rays (often denoted by the Greek letter gamma, γ) are an energetic form of electromagnetic radiation produced by radioactive decay or other nuclear or subatomic processes such as electron-positron annihilation.
Gamma rays are a form of ionizing radiation; they are more penetrating than either alpha or beta radiation (neither of which is electromagnetic radiation), but less ionizing.
Gamma rays, x-rays, visible light, and UV rays are all forms of electromagnetic radiation.

Gamma Ray, the quniccential outfit of the 21st century, was first started in 1989 by Kai Hansen, former guitarist of the power metal giant Helloween.
Gamma Ray were well known with this lineup, and they did lots of projects and band members appeared as guests in other groups' albums.
Gamma Ray was now a tighter 4 piece outfit, and this shows in their next release, Land Of The Free('95).

 The Gamma Men
The band was more or less founded by Steve Gardner, who is probably best known as the editor of the fanzine Noise For Heroes, a magazine that ran from the early 80s until 1992 and covered punk, garage and power pop bands from around the world.
After that, he tried out for a few bands but quickly decided that if he was going to be in a band that he was really going to like, he had better try to organize it himself rather than join something already going.
The last gig in which Darrin played the band rehearsed all the material they had ever done and played a marathon two hour set which was recorded on a four track recorder with the idea of making a limited edition CD of it.

This is particularly true for gamma band EEG frequencies (25 to 90 Hz or higher) that are most commonly supposed to be associated with awareness or conscious perception (9-14).
In human subjects, gamma band activity is enhanced during intense vigilance and performance of cognitive tasks (6,9-10,15-17), suppressed during central anesthesia and slow wave sleep (11,12), and has been proposed to play essential roles in olfactory recognition, temporal integration, visual feature binding and segregation, and sensorimotor integration (18-24).
Since gamma band power was affected by the 50 Hz notch filter used in the recording, the range 35 to 43 Hz was chosen for analysis.

In 1988 Kai Hansen left his band Helloween since he was tired of the bad atmosphere in and around the band.

Jan had always wanted to play the guitar in a band and he was asked to do so but he didn´t dare and left the band.

Gamma and beta frequency oscillations in response to novel auditory stimuli: A comparison of human electroencephalogram (EEG) data with in vitro models -- Haenschel et al.
Grand average auditory evoked responses to stimulus 1 and stimuli 2-8 are shown for gamma (30-50 Hz), beta 1 (12-20 Hz), beta 2 (20-30 Hz), and alpha bands (8-12 Hz).
Note that the shift from gamma to beta 1 occurred at the initial phase-locked response, whereas the induced peaks were not significantly different in latency.

In this study, processing of nouns and verbs was investigated in the intact brain using (i) behavioral measures, (ii) stimulus-triggered event-related potentials and (iii) high-frequency electrocortical responses in the gamma band.
However, it has been reported that power changes in the gamma- band are sometimes artefacts of changes taking place in other frequencies, such as the alpha-band.
In this study, we investigated power changes in frequency bands outside the gamma-range and found no evidence that such changes are related to the dynamics in gamma-power distinguishing between words and pseudowords.

Tracking the riddle of cosmic gamma rays
The MAGIC telescope reflector has as diameter of 17 metres and is the largest telescope in the world dedicated to the detection of gamma rays from distant galaxies and exploding stars.
The capability of rapid tracking of the MAGIC telescope allowed the operators to start observing the source 20 seconds after the alert was given by the Swift satellite, which is in the Gamma ray bursts Coordinates Network, when the burst was still active in the X-ray range.
The upper limit for the flux of energetic gamma rays is consistent with the expected flux of a GRB at high red-shift, strongly attenuated by cosmological pair production.

Psycoloquy 5(60): Word Processing and Gamma Band Activity
More recent studies have demonstrated a correlated decrease in power within the beta band during suppression of alpha-band activity although the spatial distribution of alpha- and beta-band suppression differs (Kaufman et al., 1990; Pfurtscheller and Klimesch, 1990; Dijk et al., 1992).
We are therefore convinced that a similar interaction between word and pseudoword presentation in the beta frequency band should likewise be observable, if not in the alpha range.
We wonder why the authors did not present dynamics at alpha and beta EEG bands and why the rich literature on event-related desynchronization was overlooked.

Differential gamma-band responses to word and pseudoword presentation cannot be an artifact of power changes in lower frequency bands because analysis of low frequency bands did not reveal such changes.
The analysis procedure was exactly the same as for the 25-35 Hz band, where a significant interaction of the factors Wordness and Hemisphere was obtained with reduced power over the left hemisphere after pseudowords.
They may well re-label what we describe as gamma depression as gamma-range ERD, as long as they add that ERD is usually seen only in the alpha (and sometimes beta) band.
