Its diameter is estimated at 90 to 110 diameters of the Sun, its distance is 199 light-years.

 85 Pegasi 3
(1931-93), 85 Pegasi was found to be a fairly close binary by noted double-star observer Sherburne Wesley Burnham (1838-1921) with the 18-inch refractor at Dearborn in 1878, who listed it in his catalogue as BU 733.
Based on measurements of the star's abundance of iron, 85 Pegasi A may be 58 to 75 percent as enriched as Sol with elements heavier than hydrogen ("metallicity") (Fernandes et al, 2002; and Cayrel de Strobel et al, 1991, page 312; and Wallerstein and Helper, 1958).
Although speckle interferometric analysis once suggested that 85 Pegasi A itself might have a close stellar companion, the observation was not confirmed and is now considered to be spurious (Wulff Dietz Heintz, 1993; and the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 1991 5th Revised Edition's notes entry for HR 9088).

 Pegasus, The Winged Horse
The distinctive Great Square of Pegasus is marked by the stars Alpha Pegasi (or Markab), Beta Pegasi (or Scheat), Gamma Pegasi (or Algenib), and Alpha Andromedae (Alpheratz) and so isn’t officially completely within the constellation of Pegasus.
One of these, NGC 7331, which is located just north of Eta Pegasi, the star that marks the first bend in the rear leg of the horse, is a spiral galaxy very similar in size and form to our own Milky Way.
Kappa Pegasi is a very close double star, with a faint, distant companion, consisting of a yellow-white and an orange star; but since they are so close together, we see them, even though large telescopes, as one star.

 Star Names
A degree of standardization had arrived in this highly confused area at last, or so it seemed.
Unfortunately, for reasons that have never been clear, the compilers of the European Space Agency’s Hipparcos Catalogue (1997) chose to adopt a somewhat different set of names and spellings, some of them clearly inferior (example: the name Eltanin, adopted by Tirion and Sky Catalogue for Gamma Draconis, comes from the Arabic al-tinnin.
The Hipparcos catalogue compilers chose instead to use the alternative version Etamin, a mistranscription found on some older charts).

The constellation of Pegasus is the seventh one of the whole sky in order of extension, but it doesn't contain any particularly bright stars.
Its characteristic feature is a big square, whose angles are shown by stars of second and third magnitude, although only three of them belong to Pegasus: the fourth one is the first star of Andromeda and once it was also called delta Pegasi.
The brightest star of the constellation, however, is not a member of the big square, but it is in the southern part: it is Enif, an orange supergiant, approximately 500 light-years away.

We obtained time-series high-resolution spectra of two beta Cephei stars (BW Vulpeculae and gamma Pegasi) covering several periods of their pulsation cycle.
Typical mean errors of the radial velocities from photographic spectra are 3 km/s for single lines and 0.6 km/s for all measured metal lines, and 0.6 km/s for the Si-doublet 6347/6371 A measured on the CCD spectra.
For the best studied star, gamma CrB, time series include data from single nights allowing for a time resolution down to 5 minutes, as well as groups of such series including several days, partly taken at two observing sites of different longitude.
