		Gamma Ray Spectrometers (GRS) are instruments that use the gamma-ray part of the spectrum to look for the presence of 20 elements from the periodic table, and have been used in the exploration of Mars, the Eros asteroid and the Moon.
		The gamma photon energy is discerned from the intensity of the flash of the scintillator, a number of low-energy photons produced by the single high-energy one.
		The neutron spectrometer is 173 by 144 by 314 mm (6.8 by 5.7 by 12.4 in).

		The Gamma-ray Spectrometer measured this radiation from lunar orbit to produce maps of the abundances of thorium, iron, and titanium on the lunar surface.
		Maps of the distribution of iron and titanium for most of the Moon's surface were later derived by analyzing visible and near-infrared images obtained by the Clementine spacecraft.
