		A CID officer had complained to the Supreme Court that he was illegally arrested, and assaulted by officers of the Gampaha Police Station on October 2, 2002 while was on his way to Chilaw to do a surveillance to arrest a murder suspect.
		The first respondent in the petition, is P.A. Manthrirathne, the Headquarters Inspector of the Gampaha Police Station.
		While in the custody of the Gampaha Police Station the petitioner had been arbitrarily treated and forced to sign a document put forward by the police officers.

		He has stated that an organisation called the "Pavidi Handa" was constituted by a considerable number of the clergy, Buddhist and Christian, in Sri Lanka, who were opposed to the proposal to extend the life of the present Parliament for a further period of 6 years.
		He filed this petition on the 9th, stating that after his statement was recorded he feared that these 5,000 copies also may be seized and taken away by the Police and that he would be arrested and his work in connection with the Referendum may be obstructed.

		He died prior to admission to the hospital while in the police custdoy of the Gampaha Police.
		It was disclosed by a Reliable source of the Gampaha hospital that Nihal Padmasiri was already dead when he was admitted to the hospital.
		On the order of the Gampaha Magistrate Court, Assistant Medical Judicila Officer Ajith Tennakoon conducted the post mortum and submitted his reportto the court on 3rd February.

		Suspected dengue cases in the Gampaha district have shown nearly a 50 per cent increase in 2004.
		Benelet Mallawarachchi, Gampaha District Epidemiologist told the Sunday Observer that the Gampaha district including Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Katana, Divulapitiya, Attanagalla, Mirigama, Dompe, Biyagama, Mahara, Kelaniya, Ragama, Wattala, Ja-ela and Negombo MoH areas had become dengue-stricken and added that an alarming number of suspected cases were reported last month.
		According to the surveys conducted by 14 Medical Officers of Health in 14 areas in the Gampaha district, it has been found that most people in those areas have become indifferent to taking preventive measures in advance to eradicate the spread of dengue.
