The Gandhigram Rural Institute has introduced distance education from this academic year to meet the needs of the unreached sections of the society, said G. Pankajam, Vice-chancellor.
Speaking to mediapersons at the institute on Friday, she said the institute had planned to introduce applied research, cooperation, early childhood care and education, English and communicative studies, operations and research and its application, and Panchayat Raj and rural development to a wider audience through distant education.
Differing from the usual correspondence courses, the institute offers specially designed certificate and diploma courses as concurrent programmes to enhance students' employability, she said, adding that students of the institute and other colleges and institutions pursuing regular graduate or postgraduate courses could also apply for the courses.
