The town was build under a planned scheme and it was to be made the centre for administration, hence all the arrangements were planned accordingly.

The Gandhinagar District Library will earn the distinction of being the first computerised library in the country, when it will be thrown open for the general public at a function here on August 24, to be organised by the State Youth and Culture Department.
The Gandhinagar library would be the first to be inaugurated on August 24 by Education Minister Anandiben Patel, who also holds the Youth and Culture portfolio.
Shaikh said the process of computerising the remaining district libraries was on and would be over by March next year, while the computerisation of two central libraries — one each in Gandhinagar and Vadodara — would be completed under the project by the end of this year.

 Gandhinagar dist admn issues notices to 800 people on plots
Ahmedabad, Mar 19: The Gandhinagar district administration has issued notices to around 800 people, including MLAs and state bureaucrats, for not allegedly obtaining building-use permission for plots allocated to them before 1998.
The notices issued by the district collector's office said allottees have to submit the building use permission obtained from Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) before March 31st or else their plots will be taken back by the government, official sources said here.
District Collector Sonal Mishra confirmed that notices had been issued notices 800 people, including MLAs and bureaucrats, who had "not submitted" building use permission of their alloted plots.

GANDHINAGAR: In a clear recognition that the heavy rainfall last year has failed to make much difference to the grounwater availability, the Gujarat government has registered a 15 per cent rise in the areas where the quality of water has gone scarce.
As a result, a government resolution (GR), which came into force early this year, has banned the repair of all tubewells that have stopped functioning in the areas falling mainly under Mehsana, Patan and Gandhinagar district panchayats.
Thus, as many as eight talukas of Mehsana district fall under "over-exploited" category, followed by seven of Banaskantha, four each of of Patan and Gandhinagar, two each of Ahmedabad and Junagadh, and one of Sabarkantha.
