The town, commune and kingdom of Gandiaye in the Department of Kaolack[?], central Senegal, lies along National Route 1 about 24 kilometers from Kaolack.
Gandiaye has its own traditional king, or "Bour Gandiaye" who is assisted by various ministers: a Jaraaf, a Farba, a Paar, etc. This court has existed for centuries.
The current Bour Gandiaye is His Highness, Babacar Mbodji I of Gandiaye[?].

King Babacar Mbodji I is currently the king or "bour" (in 2004) of the Kingdom of Gandiaye in Kaolack, Senegal.
He was enthroned at Gandiaye on a mat of reeds to succeed his predecessor, King Ibrahima Mbodji I, as the latest in a line of kings from the 11th century, when the King of Saloum created the first one.
The King of Gandiaye is locally believed to be protected by special pangool spirits, in the religion of the Sereer people.
