Ganesh Chaturthi is an occasion or a day on which Lord Ganesha makes his presence on earth for all his devotees.
It was around 1893, during the growth of nascent Indian nationalism, that the radical nationalist Bal Gangadhar Tilak began to organize the Ganesh Utsav as a social and religious function.
This happens when the Ganesh procession uses those routes (usually as a result of lack of alternative routes due to factors like size of the procession, size of the Ganesh idol and/or the vehicle used to carry it, length of the route, etc.) that pass through places inhabited by other religious groups.

Viswamji, in a lighter vein, humorously says that Ganesh would drive away the evil forces with his trunk which hangs on his front side and Hanuman would drive away the evil forces with his tail which is at his back.
Hence idol of Ganesh should be installed on the front side of the house where as that of Hanuman should be installed at the backside of the house.

Hi, Ganesh festival is on 18/9/04 Saturday,in India.Because of time lag of 10 to 14 hours,the festival will be on friday,in US.
According to it Ganesh Festival is on Septebmer 18 it falls on Saturday, it is a weekend so we have a pretty good chance to perform the pooja, cook, spend time with hubby and everything.
This year the Ganesh festival is coming on 18th september and the nimajjan is on 27th sept.

Every magazine out there in India is filled with jokes and cartoons about Ganesh before Ganesh Chaturdhi.
If you have never seen it, try reading magazines during next Ganesh Chaturdhi festival.

Actually, the tulsi leaves, I think are exclusively used for the worship of Sri Vishnu.
