It's what made me a little resistant to Gangstarr when I first heard "Words I Manifest." He sounded stiff to me. At the time I heard a radio DJ on a St. Louis hip hop show who was a lot harsher, said he was the worst rapper ever.
Gangstarr is one of the few groups to talk about "the streets" in a way that is understanding and critical.
The Gangstarr family "rolls thick." Indeed one of the great things about Full Clip is how, in selecting songs, Gangstarr picked so many that include appearances by their friends and fellow MCs.

BBC - collective - Gangstarr - The Ownerz
Gangstarr greatest hits is a good album but in my opinion it isn't their greatest hits.
The Ownerz presents the other side of Gangstarr which did change with hip hop but never lost its way, bringing Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Jadakiss and M.O.P. into the world of Gangstarr and having them collaborate on tracks with a distinctly more modern feel due to their presence.
In my eyes this album is essential to anyone who either likes Gangstarr or prides themselves on their hip hop collection just because of the classic songs that I have mentioned.

However, those that know hip-hop also think of Guru, the intelligent GangStarr MC with the smooth voice that congers visions of a smoky uptown lounge.
To counterpoint Guru's voice (or KRS-ONE's, Jay-Z's, or Biggie's, for that matter) is DJ Premier, a man whose beautiful, minimalist jazz loops sound so effortless that they can make any hip-hop lover want to save up their pennies for a AKAI sampler.
Like the best record from the N, the A, to the S-I-R, GangStarr's third album is relatively short (about 50 minutes), but it also packs more memorable lines, concepts and -- you got it -- asswhoppinz than a Martin Scorsese flick.
