Garbage was the brainchild of producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker.
Initially, Garbage was an informal jam session between the three producers held in Marker's basement, but they eventually recruited vocalist Shirley Manson, who had previously sang with Angelfish and Goodbye Mr.
Garbage recorded their debut album in late 1994 and early 1995.

Listening to the first 2 Garbage albums shows studio quality that rivals the achievements of 70's Boston or early 80's Asia or Rush.
Compared to the first 2 "straight-ahead" Garbage albums, Beautiful shows more "experimentation"; a person who loves the newest Garbage the most would say that this album shows more "range".
Let me go on the record saying that this new album is still very good--and better than most of the poser, white boy-hip hop flooding the airwaves currently.

It is an upbeat song of encouragement showcasing Garbage's trademark buzzing guitars, and despite the occasional lyrical cliche ("Life's a bitch and then you die.."), Shirley's closing pleas for the subject to "Stay Alive, my love" are chilling, and the track is a definite grower.
