Garden Island is a slender island about ten kilometres long and one and a half kilometres wide, lying about five kilometres off the Western Australian coast.
Garden Island was renamed and first settled by James Stirling in 1827 who "prepared a garden and released a cow, two ewes and three goats in a area of good pasture with good water supply".
The whole Island is classified as an A-class reserve, and the Navy has undertaken various successful programmes for the removal of introduced animals; all native animals on the island are protected.

We stayed in an indigenous bure rather than the luxury accommodation and were quite happy with this - very comfortable.
Only real drawbacks for us were: our transfer operator struggled to find the jetty to connect us with Bekana Garden's boat service [this was pick up and drop off] and the city of Lautoka is quite visible from the island.
