 Walk #462: Rosneath to Ardgartan
The walk along the A814 was a long plod, although there were occasional views across the loch, and there was even the sight of a large Royal Navy warship (the Fort Austin) being replenished at a jetty - a very incongruous sight as it is seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
Loch Long more than lives up to its name - I walked from its southern tip to the northern end today, and it has taken me into totally different scenery.
Pass the junction with the A83(T) in the village and continue on as the road curves around the top end of the loch and crosses Loin Water, and then head southwards for a couple of miles southwestwards down the A83(T), until Ardgartan campsite is reached on the left, where this walk ends.

I stopped to have a little rest in Garelochhead, which was a surpassingly nice little town sitting at the end of Loch Gare.
Fortunately the road was not too busy, and the views over the loch, whilst not spectacular, were nice enough to take my mind off the long road plod.

Odd that this is where Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote his wonderful stanza in praise of wildness and wet for it is now a very tamed and civilized corner of Scotland with the large hotel car park full of landrovers, Mercedes and tourist coaches.
I was dropped on the shores of Loch Arklet with the intention of climbing the two Corbetts Beinn a'Choin and Stob a'Choin, the two dog peaks, and being collected at Inverlochlarig.
This is a shy hill, standing back from the shores of Loch Tay and hemmed in by two higher ridges each of which culminates in a Corbett.
