Gareth in his grief let his noble born emotions loose and as the gates and defenses down, a long dormant gift was allowed to be finally unleashed.
As Gareth passed into oblivion, the kings cousin was surrounded by shocked and angry gentry, a bow and fading blue cord by his side.
Yaztromo pondered upon the problems of Darkwood at length, and as his brief stay with the Wood Elves turned into six months, and then a year, he slowly came to the conclusion that he really wanted to stay there, and be the one to look after it.

Yaztromo despaired at ever being able to achieve anything significant in the struggle against evil, as even with his great power he was still only one individual and the forces of Chaos were legion.
Yaztromo is much respected and admired by the resident Wood Elves of the forest, although the Dark Elves who infest its underground caverns underestimate his power and generally disdain to confront him (or such is their excuse!).
Yaztromo spends most of his time giving such assistance as may be required by the Wood Elves and by travellers through Darkwood, keeping a close eye on the Dark Elves, and selling magical trinkets (and occasionally more powerful artefacts) for modest payments of gold, with which he funds his famous vice for sugared cakes.
